Did you know 1000s of Veterans never claim their Pension Entitlements 60 years of age

gov.uk/guidance/pensions-and-compensation-for-veterans

Deferred Pension: If you have more than 2 years qualifying service and did not qualify for an immediate pension.

Deferred Pension: If you leave the Armed Forces before the immediate pension Point, you may be entitled to a deferred pension. This pension is paid when you are 60 for service before 6 April 2006 and age 65 for service after 6 April 2006. You can have all your pension benefits paid at age 60, but it will be actuarially reduced to reflect the early payment. A tax free lump sum of three times the annual pension is also paid. The deferred pension is not paid automatically; it must be claimed from Veterans UK Pensions Divisiongov.uk/government/public...pensions-forms A deferred pension cannot be paid earlier than age 60, except on grounds of ill-health.

gov.uk/government/upload..._explained.pdf

In some cases it’s not a lot , however with a few years under your belt it can be a few thousand.

Is there a mod that can move this to another appropriate thread as it was not ment as a discussion there is quite a lot of money at stake for ex service men who are not aware of this it won’t let me do it
I found this link gov.uk/gov…rms to the forms.

All sorted @cwj3820 - thank you for posting
definitely worth bringing this to the attention of people on the main thread feed
Worth noting this isn’t for service before 1975. My old mans 68 and all his service was before then.

Any reason why service pre '75 does not entitle Veterans to a pension?

Probably the different pension schemes. 1975 was when they introduced a new one, 05 and 16 are the current one most personnel are currently on.
I served between 1966 & 1974 and served 10 months in Northern Ireland 1972 - 1973 and get nothing. So unfair not just for me but many other veterans.
"...but it will be actuarially reduced to reflect the early payment..."

I suggest caution until you know what the reduction is - may not be a good deal?

I would never have known about this if it wasn't in the main thread. Glad it was, please leave it here!

Thats a shame, my relative completed service in 68, but then did another 8 years in the TA, i assume that doesn't count either.

Interesting to note in my relatives Certiicate of Service book, under Military Conduct they got 2. Very good, Only men could get 1. Exemplary who had served a minimum of 6 years service.
