I remember in 1999 when we were just about to break the 1Ghz barrier and everyone was getting really excited.

The possibilities was endless and people could only dream of owning a system like that. This system is twice as powerful as that dream machine.

Voting cold cos its not 1999 and the deal aint that great :-D

I liberated one of these from work for a relative :whistling:

They run Windows XP quite well with 512mb but beware that the CPU heatsink, PSU & mobo are unique fit. Some of these models also have an onboard soundblaster compatible soundcard and a speaker hidden inside. I suspect that the gfx card will be an nVidia MX200. IIRR the mobo only supports 256mb sticks; you'll need to know that exact model number to be sure.

Cold, given that these days you can build a complete base unit with all new parts vastly outperforming this system for £100.

For example I just priced a system from ebuyer with a Sempron 3200+ processor, 40GB hdd, motherboard with nForce 6100 chipset, 512MB of DDR2-667Mhz, a DVD-RW drive and a basic case/PSU for £102.13 delivered. Assembly would take an inexperienced person 2 hours max then install Ubuntu and you have a great base system for just a trace over £100.

Sorry, but it's awful; particularly as it doesn't even have the operating system installed:whistling:

Spend not much more for one of the frequent Dell deals and you have a much better purchase:thumbsup:

Cheers mate, ideal for what I have been looking for.

NOT THE BEST SPEC IN THE WORLD BUT FOR A STUDENT OR A KIDS BEDROOM FOR … NOT THE BEST SPEC IN THE WORLD BUT FOR A STUDENT OR A KIDS BEDROOM FOR INTERNET SURFING MIGHT BE OK

and in that context the deal is probably warm.
jah128 has shown a potential route to an excellent value system via ebuyer, but somebody has to assemble it and that will be completely impractical for most people. Yes, those same people will be have to install an operating system and software on this UKDVDR system, but even novices would consider installing software above hardware assembly.
we're looking at a cheap "chuck in corner / come in handy" system here, and in that context it will be exactly that.

if this bottom-end system appeals, maybe consider throwing an extra £10 at the UKDVDR system and go for a slightly better-spec BigPockets deal that includes Windows XP pre-loaded and even a 17inch monitor @ ]£99 + max £7 p&p.
other similar systems available from scrolling down ]BigPockets' pages.

Well before everyone slaughters the poor guy, it's a small form factor PC, not a full sized PC! So it's very likely to be using a mini-itx (small sized: 17x17cm) motherboard, if that is the case then it works out a good deal because mini-itx boards are not cheap and you'd pay £100 for a mini-itx mobo with 1.5Ghz CPU anyways.

Also the note about XP is slightly curious, a license sticker is included so if you had an install disc there's a chance you'd be able to active it and have a legal copy of XP.

It won't be, it will use an ordinary mini-ATX motherboard. There is no way you could fit an Intel P4 chipset and all the gubbins on a mini-ITX motherboard in 1999. Have the license sticker is no guarantee of having a legal copy of Windows also.

Lol suppose, the case only measures 33x36cm though so the mobo can't be very big. You can pick these up cheaper on ebay for anyone interested in a cheap machine - one chap was selling these with a 2Ghz PCU, 256Mb ram and 40GB HD, Buy It Now, for £55 shipped.

Deja Vu!

The graphics card is also different from normal machines.

I have one of these, higher spec, but even at basic spec, very reliable, very quiet. Lack of OS is a ****** though.
