Am I wrong in thinking that with HDMI, you either get a signal or you dont, the quality of the cable makes no difference?

Yes, that's the point of digital.

This cable is prettier than others. If that is worth a tenner to you, then by all means go for it. I know people who spend money on gold plated trinkets that don't even hook equipment together (they wear them around their necks!), so there is a market.

Yup. Hence, voted cold.

Nope there is difference as cheap cable may experience signal lost. But still, for this price is still cold
For fiver you can get a very decent one.

i recently got hold of a expensive hdmi from best buy wortth £20, and replaced my old 'cheap' hdmi cable which i got from amazon, and i noticed no difference in picture and sound quality, rather the expensive one felt like its giving sound problem and i switched it to the old cheap one and all was fine. thats my experiance

Can't tell if OP is joking...either way, cold, HDMI cables are all the same, provided they are the same spec (V1.4 etc..).

Being digital the signal either gets to where it's going or it's not.

Is it the spec (eg 1.4) that is relational to the bandwidth?

It will also protect your family pets from radiation. ???

I use Amazon basics 2m HDMI cables which are usually £5 or less.
They work fine with 1080p Blu-rays, SkyHD+ and upscaling devices.
There's plenty of tech info re:HDMI on this link : HDMI

Hot for humour, cold for the deal!

I got the Amazon basics one yesterday for £2.49 delivered, 2m

Cold. Op seems to be making a point after stating on a recent thread that cheap cables give a poor picture. I think we all understand the reality of expensive cables and the marketing behind them.

It will also protect your family pets from radiation.

Sadly I don't think it will help any pet in Japan.

You're right that in a working cable you get a signal or not; but obviously the quality of the cable can affect whether it actually works.

Presumably a braided cable might be more flexible - my £1.28 2M cable is rather stiff and not so brilliant for connecting the laptop to the TV - I certainly wouldn't pay £10 over the odds just for that.
