Gap between petrol and diesel getting wider though

10p difference between Diesel and Unleaded oO

Why does the gap between petrol and diesel keep getting wider. Beginning of December it was only 4p in Sheffield.

Petrol under £1 not bad. Although to much of that goes to the scum government of ours.

have to fill up this evening so great timing - thanks for the post

This is bound to get hot as all falling petrol price deals tend to do.
However, this is the only one that is worthy in my opinion as this is the first time we've seen a price below a pound a litre thus far.
So yeah, voted it hot.

Motorists can buy petrol for less than £1 a litre for the first time in five years after three garages in the West Midlands slashed their prices to 99.7p.
The owner of the independent Harvest Energy stations knocked 6p off the price of his petrol this afternoon after becoming fed up of supermarkets 'cheating' customers with rip-off costs.
More stations are expected to follow suit over the coming days as the price of oil continues to fall.
Dr Velautham Sarveswaran, who runs the three petrol stations in Redditch, Walsall and Birmingham with his wife Ananthi, told MailOnline he felt compelled to lower his prices after tiring of the supermarket fuel pricing 'scandal'.
'I will still be making money by cutting prices and my customers wanted to see me break the £1 barrier. My customers are happy,' he said.
'People travel as far as 20 miles just for my petrol prices.
'The supermarkets continue to make a fortune without passing the price cuts to their customers. It is a scandal. They are cheating people.'
Dr Sarveswaran bought all three of his garages in 2002 after they had closed down, bringing the failed businesses back from the dead with a strategy of 'consistent low pricing'.

there you go , now you don't

I know low price fuel is an obvious bonus bit why does everyone go crazy on here for a new "deal" where another retailer knocks off 2-3p / ltr on fuel prices?

I do lots of miles, admittedly it's a company car but I also have a private motor and fuel prices are of little to concern to me (I'm just your average bloke money wise). If I were a haulier, courier or taxi driver I'd no doubt have a different view point but I'm assuming most hukders are just the average consumer?...

I mean, fuel costs what it costs and we're powerless to influence it.
Does anyone actually drive out of their way to fill up at a cheaper outlet (obviously avoiding service stations is an exception!)?
The maths, over say a mile, a tank or even a year will only add up to a miniscule saving for even the highest millage drivers when talking about saving pence per litre here and there.

Monitoring your tyre pressures, keeping AC off, emptying your boot will have a bigger impact on the running of a car than shaving 5p off a litre ever will.

Because it is cheaper than anywhere else (currently). Therefore, it qualifies as a hot deal.
Doesn't matter (for the purposes of this deal) if we are getting ripped off or not - that's a totally different matter.

taking off ALL the taxes, how much is petrol and diesel with oil under $50 compared to when it was $114?

Slightly related - guys a flashing yellow DPF filter light has come on in my mazda 6 2.2d 2001, cars only done 30,000 miles.
We do lots of short journeys which i think may be the cause but does anyone know how serious this is, if i take to the main dealer i know they will try rip me off, any help at all would be be appreciated. Thank you.

Lower Price is good news. Difference between petrol and diesel is shocking. Whats outrages is the ENERGY firms have not brought down or introduced any new tariffs!!! Anyone remember when prices shot up immediately when oil went up also?

Bring DOWN GAS prices will save people 100's.

"DPFs of 2.2 diesel continuing to fail, resulting in total engine failure if the oil/fuel level in the engine is not checked and addressed. Today had notification of another 2.2 diesel engine failure at 36,500, but at the time of failure the engine contained 8.5 litres of fuel/oil mixture so the driver had obviously not checked the oil level."

Could be looking at a big bill as it involves a lot of labour. Cousin had to get hers replaced on her A3 convertible and it cost £2500 from dealers.
