Seems to be a new item in the Screwfix catalogue. £99.99 (free delivery) it looks like a good price for a self propelled petrol lawn mower, as the next cheapest is the same item at B&Q for £112.00. This seems to be a stock priced item, but Screwfix are pretty good with returns and problems and if your in the market for a petrol mower this is the best price I can find.

Correction : Hand-propelled rotary mower

This isn't self propelled.

You propel it yourSELF!

anyone know if it takes standard unleaded petrol??

This is four stroke so no additives required. It's two strokes that need an oil/fuel mix.

Bought a cheap lawnmower a few years ago, never again. Fine for the first year, then carb kept getting blocked. Got it repaired once, same problems again, binned it. Went for a Honda Izy, starts first time every year, never had a problem with it. Yes I know the Izy is more than double the price of this one, but worth it in the long run.

Some four stroke mower engines including early Honda engines suffer from a problem where the carburettor becomes blocked after the engine has been left over winter. This is due to the Ethanol that is now added to petrol. If you use fuel conditioner it prevents blockages. At the end of every season I use Fuel Fit in my 18 year old Honda and it always starts the following year. ebay is the cheapest place to buy Fuel Fit.

Am i missing something here? why would you buy a petrol lawn mower over an electric one? surely the cost of the petrol lawn mower is high especially how fuel costs are....

Fuel costs are negligible, and I would guess compatible with electricity costs.

Servicing adds to the cost though.

These cheap mowers are not great at large areas, and if you have a small/medium garden, electricity is probably your best option.

For larger gardens, petrol is a necessity.

so, a gallon of fuel for my mower usually lasts months, too long tbh as fuel goes crap is left for ages. I have a long driveway and enough garden to hate electric cabling so petrol is just easier and much quicker. You don't really need to service these cheap petrol mowers much at all to be fair. change the spark plug every year or two and use petrol that's not sat for months in the can and they are usually bullet proof.. and as long as you run it til no fuel is left in the tank the end of the last cut of the year you are unlikely to get problems. Old fuel is your enemy, the ethanol as already mentioned gums up the carbs and rots the engine seals if left in the mower, so a bit of thought and you should get a good few years from one. I have got a cheap one that's 20 year old and runs fantastic.

Nice to see a new petrol mower for under £100 usually only find secondhand ones for this price, heat added
