Is this any good? My son has more or less wrecked our mower (probably deliberately I might add..)

Not great reviews and only 12 months warranty.

Personally I'd avoid.

If this comes back in stock it's a better buy, better reviews and 2 years warranty:

I bought a muculloch 450 for £129 recently, think it was from Ideal World. even if they don't have stock I dont think they are much more else where and I'd think its much better than this

Thanks guys nice alloys on the Wilko tho!!

As the natural order should be - surely?

Previous thread stated these could be cheap Chinese engines?

hmmm. I'd avoid. Far to many negative comments. In any case b and q have a similar model with equallt dodgy engine for under 100.
Go for anything with good ole USA briggs and stratton which will go on for years.
These start at about the 160 mark in bandq and homebase.

Plastic deck, handles shear off eventually, cold from me, buy metal decked mower and Hammerite it!

I'm not sure B&S are what they were. I've just spent some time figuring out why my two year and one week old - so just out of warranty - B&S engined Toro won't run. Think it's the thermostatic choke mechanism - a common B&S fault apparently.

Over in the USA B&S don't seem to be as well regarded as here. They seem to like Japanese brands these days with Kawasaki being top AFAICT. Though they are somewhat more expensive than B&S machines.

I found youtube was useful for any hiccups. mine needed a bit of a clean.

Yes, I found some good stuff on there and, how should I say, not so good.

In the end I think I have fixed it, I sprayed some PTFE lubricant down into where the thermostatic arm pivots and it appears to be operating OK. I read some comments where people reckoned that sometimes the lubricant is not sufficient when the part is manufactured and, as it is connected to the exhaust, the heat evaporates it away and it then sticks.

Looking at the engine it seems well designed. Perhaps though, like so many things, the components are manufactured by subcontractors out in China and quality control might be variable. I'm not sure where the engine was actually made, but the complete lawnmower was assembled Poland - I'm not sure these days whether that is a good or bad thing.
