Thanks for this. The only question now is which one shall I go for?

The one above or,

Viewsonic VA2012 at £237.68
Samsung SM205BW at £266.54

Dell UltraSharp™ 2007WFP at £285.35

I'm a viewsonic lover.... but the samsung one looks very nice and it has the best response rate. Decisions decisions....

I like the Samsung panels and the one you've listed above has 700:1 contrast with a stated 6ms response time, which makes it more appealing to me

Corrected the Dell link as it was to the 24". The Dell is also an attractive buy, looking at the spec...

The ViewSonic is pleasing on the eye [to me], but not quite up there with the spec.

Not much help am I

Maybe I answered it in the order I listed them

I think the reponse times are all similar, Dell's quoted time is from black to white, changes and the others grey to grey.

Uff, I hate this! Has anyone bought any of these?

I was going to ask the same question. I was about to buy the Dell 20" when this one came up.
Help someone please.

If you wanted a 20" widescreen this has got to be the one to go for

I agree smokedog - the VX range in viewsonic is much better than the VA budget range, and pricewise, it's not too bad!!! That one is 8ms - very nice.

I went for the Dell last week but may have gone for the Samsung had they been in stock at the time and had I been able to find any reviews. Samsung are a huge panel manufacturer so they really know their stuff in this area and whenever I've seen Samsungs next to other models in shops, picture quality always seems good, although I can't comment on this model.

Reviews of the Philips, Viewsonic VA & VX were all so-so, however they are all bottom of the price range for this monitor size so that's to be expected.

I agree with that jbp, trusting in Samsung's excellent reputation for their panels and think that would sway me to go for the Samsung. But as mentioned earlier, try to get a look before you buy if you can...

Hi, I'm new, been lurking a while enjoying your posts and now am ready to jump in!

I was wondering whether there was much difference between the monitors mentioned above and the Acer AL1916WS 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor available from Amazon for only £142.89 delivered (just reduced again). I've been using laptops without an external monitor for ages and so have no real idea. The price difference seems quite a lot for 1.1 inches (although I notice that these have a dvi input as well - not sure if I'll need that or not?).

I'll be using it with a brand new dell 640M (with 14.1 inch widescreen). PS I was also going to use the whole caboodle with a Freecom Digital TV DVB-T USB Stick Freeview receiver - £32.36 also at Amazon, if anyone has any opinions on this combination.

Thanks for all your brilliant advice. I'm a crazed bargain hunter!! :-D

Welcome to HotUKDeals and non lurking Thanks for your post.

I know the 19" Acer is extremely popular and I haven't heard bad reviews of it. If you want it to watch Digital TV through the FreeCom stick, I think you'll need to check if you can receive Freeview without any problems wherever you want to use it.

I just took a look at the Dell 640M which I think has a normal VGA video connector for connection to external monitors. The Acer comes with cables and connector and as your graphics card is already capable of 1440 x 900 I think the Acer should be suited nicely.

MikeT should be able to help and confirm this if you want to give him a PM
