Did I mention this is £233 on Amazon?

if someone is considering spending this amount on a tv/monitor then they might also want to consider this (£150 on amazon right now, but i got mine £20 cheaper a couple of days ago)...

amazon.co.uk/gp/…shr

no scart connector, but 2 hdmi's (nice), DVI , VGA and 4 usb ports. it's the exact same screen as the cheaper, but stupidly well-reviewed, BenQ G2220HD (which lacks speakers, usb ports and hdmi, but which is only a "paltry" £110).

Err, that's a computer monitor, not a TV! Like comparing a motorbike and a car 'because they both have wheels and move you places'.

not really. in real-terms it's as much of a tv as your thing. you can plug Sky HD directly into it and watch it in 1080p. it's got its own internal speakers. i call that a tv. and in this digital age its range of imputs makes it more appealing. it's not just pc owners that are buying it - if you take a look at tech forums and youtube people are buying it to hook up to their PS3's and 360's and using it as their main gaming screen. it's a seriously good picture. it's not just "a computer monitor".

it also looks like a tv.

wish people wouldnt post monitors on a thread for a TV, yes you can plug in sky HD but who is going to subscribe to sky and then use it on these tidgey things.. great set with freeview built in for all the grannies and people who want a better quality set for a kitchen or back room without having to subscribe or have seperate boxes...

we will eventually see freeview hd on sets this size i think though

Sky HD is broadcast in 1080i not 1080p. It is not a TV just because it has speakers and HDMI inputs etc. It is still just a Monitor. It needs to have a Built in Analogue or Digital Tuner to be classed as a TV. Just clarifying things.

Considering the only real technical detail preventing the BenQ from being classed as a "TV" is the lack of a tuner, your comparison example is just a tad exaggerated.

You'll get no complaints from me about this deal - cracking price if people manage to get a hold of it. However, Gamera's link would be just as useful for people looking for a set around this budget though - depending on their viewing habits. I have a 50" Samsung PS50B850 plasma as my main set and although it has a tuner I've never used it to watch Freeview once - it is not a feature that everyone needs.

But the 150 one says 63 watts, whereas the £110 one says 28 Watts, which would imply a decent saving (on top of the initial £40 saving). Therefore being a valid reason for why it is highly reviewed?

???

If you can't watch TV on it as it is sold, then it is not a TV. Simples.

Especially at this size, no-one is going to want to plug it into a dedicated TV tuner.

As for the OP's deal - I'll vote hot. But I'm still waiting for a decent TV of this size to come down to the £100 pricepoint.

Sorry try this

anyone got any review sites for this TV cant seem to easily get to one from google.

im interested in seeing the side profile of the TV to establish how it will sit on the wall. Richer Sounds states its 49mm which seems a little thick for an LED.

ElGato

How about this one

No

Yep, freeview (DVB-T) transmissions will be switched over completely to freeview HD (DVB-T2) in the next few years.

i just saw this. i doubt you'll see this now, but here goes anyway LOL

none of the reviews i've seen are praising the cheaper model for how cheap it is to run. they're purely concerned with the picture quality. go and take a look at Amazon. and so, seeing as it's the same panel in different housing, anything said about the picture quality also applies to the G2220HD.

if that's how you want to see things, then fine. personally i find it daft. a large number of tv's sold now have Freeview built in, but it's a feature that's never used for many. a Sky HD box or similar is plugged in instead. for a large number of people the inclusion or absence of an internal tuner is completely irrelevant.

if it's in your lounge, got it's own speakers, and you're watching tv on it, guess what?

it's a tv.
