There's nothing actually wrong with a full HD 40" TV at this price? Ok, clearly not cutting edge in tech terms, but it's a decent amount of TV for the money. If I needed it, and was on a budget, I'd grab one of these!

Just in case you weren't aware, Philips branded TV's are made and owned by TP Vision, a Chinese company.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TP_Vision

Their TV's are not of the same quality they used to be.

Heat given. Regardless of brand, a very good price.

Probably worth mentioning 3D in the title mate, I voted cold because I thought you was trying to sell me a 1080p TV in 2018 for £200

Happy New Year pal
Ah damn, if i'd of seen this last week i would have had it but might of been worthwhile spending the £90 extra for the 4k and 5yr warranty anyway. We'll see. Heat for this though!

"TP Vision is a wholly owned subsidiary of TPV Technology, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, which develops, manufactures and markets Philips branded TV sets in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and selected countries in Asia-Pacific."

Sounds like it is a Dutch company to me?

A Dutch subsidiary of a Chinese company I suppose, so probably some of the old Philips staff in a small office in Holland and the TV's are made in the TPV parent company's factory in China, I'm thinking.

£200 for this is pretty decent price and I think I'd rather chance this cheapy than a Vestel

Another Vestel in disguise

Actually a Chinese made TV that isn't a Vestel, just for a change!
I have £90 in Amazon vouchers and tempted to go for this deal, is there anything else similar like a LG or Samsung for a good price? Thanks
3d on a 1080 set is why it died out, dont let that be a feature that sells it to you. If you need 3d, find a cheap refurb LG uh850v / 950v
My 3d on a 1080 looked perfect. However only took one film for the novelty to wear off and never used again. This tv looks ok otherwise for £199
Tempted. We have a ye olde 32 inch telly in our lounge with a humongous bezel so I think a 40 inch telly would be spot on for the space. We've got a 3d Blu Ray player and have no need for Smart functionality as we have a Firestick, so: is the best/cheapest 3d telly available at this screen size? Any pointers appreciated, cheers, happy New Year to all.

Not many reviews on this TV, it does seem pretty good value for £200
I found this review but you need to use Google Translate (built into Chrome browser)

They used to be part of the Dutch based Philip's Electronics group until they were split off with a majority stake owned by TPV in 2012.
But then bought out completely in 2014. So although they retained the Philip's name, officially based in Amsterdam, they are actually Chinese TPV made TV's.
But as I said, still a very good price.
To make the waters even "muddier", What Hi-fi list this TV's country of origin as Poland!

Oh, and this TV is not 3d. Looks like a listing error in the description by Amazon. So that needs removing from the title.

Cheap little TV to play games on since the 100hz refresh rate?

Cheap little TV to play games on since the 100hz refresh rate?

Times are a changin' when 40" is regarded as little. Not long since I managed to convince my partner a 32" wouldn't over dominate our 22' living room!
Not bad price for the spare room

Although it says 100HZ, my money is on it being a 60HZ panel with some effects to make it look like its a higher refresh rate than it really is. Phillips list it as "Picture Enhancement" so it could be real or just an after effect - only way to know for sure is to buy by the looks of it.

Yeah, the last Philips TVs were pretty dire. Now that they're owned by TPV (better known as AOC for their computer monitors) they should improve.
And its just expired anyway haha

Nope
Will do for the kids room!
lcd..
meh
Its good to see a tv that isn't 4K. I'm never going to get 4K as 'apparently' true HD videos look worse on 4K sets than HD sets. All of my videos are HD or lower
So this is a 3d/not 3d Philips/TP vision/Vestel made in China/Poland/The Netherlands.

Glad you all cleared that one up.
