lol

No.

Cinemas dim the lights as projectors are not as bright as you might think. (And they don't bend the screen for "immersion" either. Curved screens were to negate pincushion effect from the projector, regardless what the sales guy in Currys tries to tell you ...)

And bezels are small as they're ugly. Simple as that. Not a distraction. Not to mention a nice marketing tool for guys like you.

Lighting behind a panel is actually a good thing. If it's done right. Go google "bias lighting" ....

Philips Ambilight is not bias lit in the traditional sense of the word. What they do is a combination of traditional bias lighting, but also by following onscreen colour, it tricks the eye into thinking it can see more than it actually can by putting similar colours to the onscreen ones in your peripheral vision where your eyes pick up less detail.

It's a known trick of the eye and works well. I've tested it in VR which has a more limited field of vision than a flat panel and, when done right, the effect is very good.

£600 for 65" sounds dirt cheap, is it not?

PS. Doesn't deliver to Northern Ireland... discrimination or what

I have a Philips 55pus6401, ambilight, android os TV.
I paid around £450 for it, ambilight is cool but the TV is pretty crap.

Always having problems from time to time. The screen usually crashes on YouTube, breaks into 3 X 1080p displays and the 4th is just lines.
Sound is fired downwards / sideways so everyone in the house hears it first. (sound bar needed)
4k isn't smooth at all, can tell there's a problem and jutter at times (usually YouTube 4k).

If I had known Philips were going to sell terrible panels I would've said up and gone else where.

Tiptop spot Devin, but now you have your Professor PEP hat... will you still buy Terry's Chocolate oranges for 50p
Is this the ambilight model
This looks like a good deal.

No.

According to the blurb it is. If it isn't ambilight, and you're not bothered about, it you might be able to negotiate some discount with Amazon after you've received it and set it up.

I think ambilight shows in blurb of 65" only
Is this better than the HiSense 43A6200UK?

I'd probably wait unless it's a model you're sure of, Amazon will likely be clearing a lot of models considering how long BF goes on for on their site now

10 bit hdr? Or not?

8 Bit + FRC

So, it's kinda 10 Bit but not true 10 Bit. Although 8 Bit vs 10 Bit isn't that meaningful when it comes to HDR. Brightness, blacks, contrast, WideColorGamut, local dimming and good processing engine make the difference. At this price though, it's more than serviceable especially as it is Direct LED light panel with Micro Dimming.

I have an old 6401 and the HDR looks pretty nice. Personally I'd pay a little more and get Ambilight as that really adds to the viewing experience in my opinion alza.co.uk/43-…htm

I've got the same TV and I have to say the software on this TV is terrible. Its very slow and buggy.

Its a shame because the TV has some good features but we do have a soundbar though so I can't comment on the sound issues. I probably won't go for another Philips TV in the future

Does your YouTube content look a little sluggish at times? (Usually when it's panning 4k content)?

I'm unsure if it's just my unit or the TV in general.
I know my YouTube app is crap, so I rolled it back to stock 1 on the app as the latest app would crash my TV all the time.
great deal. Will definitely get one for Christmas
recently bought the PUS6703 and it's a great TV although no deals atm, was recommend by Richer Sounds due to low input lag and deeper blacks (for gaming/movies) and given 5 stars by what hifi whathifi.com/phi…iew

Maybe worth holding out for this model for black friday.

Dunno if I should go for A6200 or U7A. Mainly used for Xbox 4K and watching Football.

May I ask what qualifies you to make this statement ?
AVForums gave the A6200 9 out of 10 overall, the reviewer commented that the factory calibration settings gave 'jaw-dropping colour accuracy' to the extent that the improvements he made had no perceptible impact on the picture.

I myself have a 55N5300 and find the unit incredible value for money compared to the Sammy 6400 in the next room at almost double the price.

I’d get the U7A if you’re getting the 55” as it’s 120Hz. The 50” is only 60Hz
Hi 👋

I'm very tempted by this but heard there are some flaws with sound and brightness.

Anyone know about this? (below) Seems another stellar deal! Thanks!

It is that "hard border" post brexit, the delivery drivers are too lazy for it.

If you're referring to my 55N5300, the smart software is nothing special but has all the important apps.

The VIDAA interface is quite minimalistic, Samsung's and LG's definitely look better. However, it has all the important apps including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime and Freeview, and importantly, the remote has single-button access to all 4 which I find a very nice touch. It also has SmartIPTV which works perfectly.
I ordered the Hisense 43A6200 for the bedroom, being delivered tomorrow. 9/10 AVForums, 4.5/5 Techradar & 4.5/5 Trusted Reviews.
Signed up with new email address on AO got 20 quid off the £309 bringing it down to £289. Think that might be the best deal around for a secondary/bedroom TV!
Still, voted hot.

Pretty much the only 43"-er on sale too that you're guaranteed a VA panel.

I don't tend to use the apps on the TV anymore and use my Amazon Firestick instead. The Amazon and Netflix ones kept crashing or freezing the TV so just gave up with that. The TV guide is something I can't get around though and its painfully slow to interact with compared with other manufacturers

I'm not too sure actually, think it may be the standard 2 year Hisense warranty that's included. Note the 6100 doesn't have dual band wi-fi like the 6200 has if that is handy for you. Also the 6200 is out of stock for home delivery on Richer Sounds so you'd have to pick it up!
