Ambilight is quite something.

Do you have a console connected to it ?Any good for sports, movies ?Thanks

I had my Xbox One S connected for a while and it was fine. Mine has 12ms lag so its perfectly decent for gaming. The image quality is great and movies and sports look great. Whilst watching football the whole room is bathed in a green glow similar to below. That's my Xbox One S running below.

Obviously its not up there with OLED/QLED but its perfectly serviceable for a mid/budget range TV.

Was considering getting the new HDMI sync box bug think its gonna be better value to just buy a new TV with Ambilight.

The HDMI sync box, bridge and lights wont cost much less than this TV alone. I would just buy the ambilight TV instead.
My 55ins arrived , deal from another thread... Love it !

What's a preferable wall mount to accompany an Ambilight with?

Do you use yours with a soundbar or receiver? If so does ambilight music mode still work if you set the TV up to play sound via soundbar/receiver? Thanks!

You won't notice any difference in picture quality. Its just light that flashes behind the TV synced with whatever on the screen at the time. At best it'll increase the perceived "throw" of the image. Arguably more immersive, arguably distracting. Certainly cool for watching a light saber fight.

That said I switched from an ambilight setup to a static warm white light behind the TV, I believe they call it bias lighting, and I find it reduces eye strain and blacks seem deeper.

50" isn't that much bigger than you 40" though, if its a large living room you might consider going 60. Especially if its another 10 year investment.

I had an ultraslim / flat to wall type. I ended up bringing it out another CM or so as the effect was fairly muted being that close.

Be warned there are potential motion issues with this series (as well as last year's). Big thread on AVforums.

Philips acknowledged it and started putting a leaflet in with some models advising to use Game mode, and to turn the processing off. But, on last year's at least, you have to cycle through the modes every time you switch the telly on.
Is anyone who has this able to let me know the distance between the stand legs? Just trying to work out if it’ll fit on my sound base
Was tempted until I read some of the reviews on Curry's.

Where abouts are the settings to choose whether to place it on the wall or on a stand?

772mm clearance inbetween the legs, 808mm outside edge to outside edge of legs.

This is a great TV at this price. I paid £450 for mine before Christmas and am very happy with it, the picture quality was miles ahead of anything else in store for a similar price at the time. I could only see an increase in quality once you stepped up to around £700.

I don't use it for games but have watched some sports on it. I don't generally notice motion issues, maybe about once a week on a really fast pan with high contrast it will blur a bit

Thanks a tonne for the response. The legs are too wide to sit on my Sonos playbase then 😥 (71cm wide). How far do the stand legs lift the bottom of the screen up? 🤞🏽 more than 6cm
Hot for the price, but for who want to go with a different tv like oled or other brand, ambilight can be added with a simple arduino and led strip, total cost will be like £15 for this add-on, arduino nano £5 led strip £10 for 5m...you have to fiddle arround but i assume in max 1hr anyone can have it up and runing. There is one requirement, needs to be smart tv for this to work.

I think you will notice picture quality coming from a ten year old screen. I've just upgraded an 9 year old Samsung TV and the difference is obvious. Suppose it depends on your eyesight?
Is this worth getting for my room?
Was going to use with my PS4
I remember when I first got my ambilight TV for the first time way back in 2006.
Breathtaking it's what I thought.
Was a bachelor then, got married, had my first boy in 2009 and my wee gerel just last year in November and all we have known is ambilight TV.
Nothing comes close.
We visit friends and TV looks "descent" as my son puts it.
Have changed my TVs every 2years and now we have the hue lights to enhance the experience.
Movie nights are epic.
Definitely worth it

I have a soundbar. The music mode works fine. I use follow video mode but if you're just watching a music video or want to watch the lights sync to any sound or voice you see

It's probably cheaper to fit this TV behind my OLED TV, and then press play on Netflix at the same time
Every tv needs ambi light... you think its a gimmick but then cant live without it...
Looks like theyre all gone

How do you do this with a smart TV? I have this setup now but have a frame grabber connected to my youview box. I can't see how to do this on a smart TV as they don't have any video out ports.
Damn, all gone

I might be being pedantic, but the way the question was worded was whether he'd notice a difference in picture quality with ambilight. I'm sure it almost goes without saying that if you upgrade your 10 year old TV you'd notice a difference, my point is that ambilight is irrelevant to that.
