Great detail

Enjoy incredible clarity in everything you see with the Philips 50PUS8204/12 50” Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV. With HDR and a resolution four times better than Full HD, you’ll get bright colours and sharper images.

It’ll upscale your older shows and movies too, letting you rediscover your favourites as you’ve never seen them before.

Be immersed with Ambilight

From movies to games, get more immersed in your content with Philips Ambilight. Intelligent LEDs around the edges of the TV panel cast the colours on your screen onto the wall behind it and into your room, creating a stunning effect that will make your screen feel bigger and give every show a tailored, real-time light show.

Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

With Dolby Vision technology, every scene is enhanced for a brilliantly vivid image. Finer details are deeper, skin tones look more natural, and motion appears perfectly smooth - ideal for fast paced sports and movies.

Dolby Atmos gives your audio a boost too, for a full sensory experience that captures all the original richness of your content. Everything will look and sound more real than ever.

Convenience at your fingertips

Say goodbye to endless scrolling and use your voice to control your TV. With the in-built Google Assistant, whether you search for a movie on Netflix or find an app in the Play Store, all you need to do is ask. You can even control other Google Assistant compatible devices around your home, like smart light bulbs or the thermostat without even needing to get up.

With the Google Play store and the Philips App Gallery, there’s loads of content for you to explore. Get movies, boxsets, music, apps, games, and more all directly to your TV – there’s something to keep everyone happy.

I torture myself by adding Ambilight TVs to my notifications. I can’t afford a TV but torment myself by getting daily notifications for deals. Why do I do it?

This TV was typically £499, or £450 from ebay as a refurb.

It comes with free delivery and a 2 year warranty.

The TV has the amazing Ambilight, which can be as detailed or as strong as you want, it can also be switched off.

Recommend this TV for people watching it straight on, because the viewing angle is pretty narrow, but the trade off is great contrast!

The settings need tweaked to achieve the best picture, but it’s worth it I can promise.

I also recommend setting the TV to Game mode (which switches off all the processing gumph).

Enjoy!

And of course I have the 50PUS6754 coming from Richer Sounds today for the same cost. Which TV is better as I may just decline delivery? Obvs you would think this one but the 6754 seems to get better reviews. And added benefit of a 6 year warranty.

I’d personally keep the 6754 mate, both will have a detailed picture but the 7000 and 8000 series has a bit more bass to the sound and the operating system might run a bit smoother.

6 year warranty is excellent.

I have decided on this one. It should be better in most aspects and hold a better resale value. 2 year warranty is fine for me as by then, I will probably be wanting a new tv 👌
I got the 55” on Sunday £120 more expensive as it’s on offer now. Rang curry’s up and they have honoured the price match and refunded me £120. On another note the tv is amazing and the ambilight really does immerse you into what you are watching. Highly recommend this tv.

55" is great, agree....but I saw the 65" in store late last year and despite constant fiddling with it, just couldn't get it to look as good as the 50" and 55" for some reason.
Does anyone use this for gaming? Xbox one X?
This is a 60hz screen & i need a 120hz screen as I watch alot of sport & am a gamer

Input lag is no more than 38ms, and from memory I think this set was around 28-30ms on testing.

I have the 6272, no problems.

thanks
Purchased this at 499 last month, so hot from me. Great TV.
Before you start tinkering with everything, get connected to wifi...update the software....then reset the tv via settings. This will give you the freeview play app.

Yeah I have ordered this and cancelled the 6754. This 8204 that is £799 full price vs the 6754 at £449 full price seems a no brainer.
I ordered the 50pus8204/12 50 before Christmas for £449 and love it, you really miss the ambilight when it's off.

As above takes a little bit of setting up to your taste but it's excellent value imo.
Can anyone comment on this for gaming? I think I want the va panel for the colours but heard it has motion blur?
I have the 7304 in 50"
I have a Xbox one X and in game mode the tv has 18ms so it is pretty good
I guess this model has the same or better
I'm very interested in this TV but isn't 350 nits really low and poor especially for HDR/Dolby Vision?

You not going to find anything Brighter at this price range even the samsung RU8000 is only around 380 nits and more expensive.
50" is VA , 55" is IPS. Think I'd rather have the 55" for better viewing angles. IDK (Why is buying a 4k TV so complicated :()

Yeah, agree!

It really does come down to where you will sit relative to the TV.

Straight on (anywhere on an average three piece sofa I’d say) then get the 50”.

If you’re out with that, then get the 55”, but the contrast won’t be quite as good, but perhaps not that noticeable for some!

Complex!!

Two different TVs altogether, comparing apples with oranges I’m afraid, but I’ll humour you.

The 55PUS6704, Which? Magazine says, “doesn’t even get the basics right....57%”.

Good luck with that.

The panels are different for a start, big difference in technology there.

Currys don’t sell the 55” 6704, they don’t stock many Philips in store at all so perhaps it was something else you saw.

Philips TV’s are notorious for requiring more set up to achieve good picture quality, so I doubt they’d be shown in anything other than “shop mode”, which we all know is pretty horrible from the off.

How hard are these to set up/install, and do you get all the wires/cables required in the box. I'm thinking of going for the 65inch version.
I don't want to pay someone £45 to do it for me.

How do you switch the TV to Game mode? I find it as a picture setting and ambilight setting but not sure if that does anything with input lag, refresh rate etc?
Thanks, just bought one for the in-laws, I have the 7 series so I already know this is going to be a nice TV, amazing price!

You can pay over 12 months with an Argos Card interest free :-)

I also had ambilight on my notifications for ages, even years as I wanted one then I grabbed a 7 series and I'm so glad I did.

It should be in the TV profile settings, it helps input lag because you’re allowing the TV to display pure source, without any processing which delays the picture being displayed, ie lag.

Google?

Yes, I could use a search engine, but I'd need to readily understand or be aware of the relative comparators that would produce the appropriate results. I don't know or fully understand them, and I was no clearer after looking at Richer Sounds site. Hence why I asked.

Sorry if that's a daft question - I'm suffering from prolonged lack of sleep, and have a killer headache... 😞
