With unique, 4-sided Ambilight, the Philips 55OLED856 draws you into the heart of the action.
Expanded vision with Ambilight 4-sided
Although this is a smaller OLED TV, 4-sided Ambilight makes it appear much more immersive. This unique Philips technology enjoys its ultimate incarnation, with 4-sided Ambilight. Using intelligent LEDs all around the TV, colour from the picture is cast into the room – in real time. Colour, vibrancy and excitement move beyond the screen and into your living room to bring you a viewing experience beyond the ordinary, with this extraordinary Philips 55 inch TV.
The ultimate picture technology - OLED
Delivering the ultimate picture quality, this Philips 55 inch TV uses OLED technology. Unlike conventional LED TVs, OLED doesn't need a backlight. Each pixel makes its own colour and light. When they are turned off, they are completely black. With deeper blacks you get enhanced colours and astonishing contrast that allows you to enjoy the purest, most lifelike image.
Introducing artificial intelligence, with P5 AI Perfect Picture Engine
The P5 AI Perfect Picture engine is the ‘brain’ behind the picture and even ‘thinks’ in a similar way to us. The powerful processor uses deep-learning AI algorithms to get the most lifelike images possible. Maximising detail, colour realism and smooth motion, the P5 AI engine optimises OLED and Ambilight for a brilliant performance.
HDR to the max, with HDR10+
For the highest quality picture, HDR10+ offers scene-by-scene HDR mastering for the truest, most accurate HDR picture technology to date. With HDR10+ each scene is optimised, meaning the maximum amount of detail is shown – even in the brightest or darkest moments. The 55OLED856 also supports standard HDR10 and HLG formats.
Gaming made better
With HDMI 2.1 connectivity at its heart, the Philips 55OLED856 has many features that makes it the ideal choice for gaming. Once connected to one of the HDMI 2.1 sockets, ultra-low-latency mode is automatically selected when begining game play. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and FreeSync are supported, giving you the fastest and smoothest response possible. Unique to Philips, Ambilight’s gaming mode brings another dimension of immersion.
Dolby Vision for dramatic imaging
As well as supporting HDR10+, this Philips 55” OLED TV is also compatible with Dolby Vision - a leading format in Hollywood and cinemas around the world. Dolby Vision also adjusts the picture to take full advantage of each display's characteristics and presents an optimized picture for each scene in specially mastered content.
Dolby Atmos for enhanced sound
With a Dolby Atmos processor built-in, the Philips 55OLED856 decodes Atmos sound tracks - giving you the potential for an even more immersive sound. Featuring a built-in 2.1 speaker set-up with subwoofer and a 50 watt amp, it provides powerful, well-rounded sound.
Android TV for smart TV
In a complicated world of catch-up TV, Android TV makes sense of it all. Using a clear, intuitive interface, Android lets you effortlessly switch between Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Disney+ and many other services. Android lets you pick up where you left off in the latest series or check out new movie releases – all without getting lost within complicated menus.

sorted byIt may or may not matter for you personally, but you might want to be aware of that first.
There is an issue with 4k at 120hz on this TV, see above. I can't remember exactly what the issue was, but it is related to VRR and half resolution limitation (edited)
ring them up, they will refund the difference 100%
Definitely call them up. Same happened to me in November, called them about 5 days later and they refunded the difference within 3 days.
I’m curious about this too. Especially input lag, which would be important for Xbox. It would be great to find a decent ambilight TV that’s also good for gaming…
If you have the budget I'd just go for LG if you have next gen console / future proof. (edited)
Yeah I'd agree. Got an LG C1, CX and just recently got a Panasonic JZ980 which has 2 x 2.1 ports and uses the same Mediatek SOC as the Philips but Panasonic managed to fix the half resolution pretty quick last year. They even stated that they would not support full 4k 120hz VRR at released but made good on their promise as they have done with other TVs I have owned and I have always got regular updates on Panasonic TVs I own too. I would personally only buy Panasonic,LG or Sony from my personal experience however I could not justify Sonys pricing.
Calm down JGod
Will be using it for watching YouTube, movies and xbox series x. 120Hz gaming is important.
Opinions welcome. (edited)
Pretty sure that’s because the Philips brand is owned by Funai in the US and not TP Vision. The Philips TVs over there are completely different.
Thank you. LG it is then
Do you think its essential to wall mount a 4 sided ambilight? I'm no expert but it would seem the extra downlight would be somewhat restricted when on its stand.
Indeed. Unless we're talking esports titles, or older gen games with boosted performances. Otherwise we're eons away from 4k and 120hz on aaa titles unless we're talking lowered visual quality, no RT and big upscaling. I mean if you're spending 1 grand on a tv might as well get one that supports the latest and greatest standards, but so often i read people here turning away otherwise better sets in favour of usually an LG because "more hdmi 2.1 ports!!!" I wouldn't be without ambilight 🏻
Slightly.....but when you see it side by side with a 3 sided ambilight it's absolutely no question that it adds to the ambience and will ruin the 3 sided ones forever. Also the stands don't restrict it against the wall....unless you're mounting your TV for some reason no lt against a wall (edited)
