Thanks. We don’t live near a Costco yet my wife was next door to one yesterday and flat out refused to cooperate in any activity that involved buying a new TV... How rude!

Great price
Would rather they lower the price on the 58” 7 series back down again personally

Wow. Less than 400 quid for a 55" 4k tv with 3 sided ambilight and 5 year warranty. Heat added.

These don’t appear to support BBC iPlayer.

Don't believe so. It's simply required for the purchase.Though i've never tried to excerise that
@Murgatr0yd They don't currently support BBC Iplayer, I have messaged support a few times over the last 6 months and have gotten the same response "The issue is currently under investigation", supposedly its going to be fixed with a new software update but i'm not too hopeful.

Otherwise its been a great TV for me, the ambilight wasn't something I knew I wanted but it has really added to the experience iv'e had with it, also the quality of the speakers was surprisingly high, highly recommend the TV!

EDIT: there may be a new software update for the TV that fixes Iplayer according to comments below, ill update when I get a chance to check tonight!

That's a bit pants. No sign of Freeview play support at all

And Michelin tyres
Guys read avforum before you buy as there is a fair amount of people complaining with picture quality on hdr and software issues and other stuff on 7000 series. SDR content looks far more better and brighter than HDR..
Philips hasn't done anything over past 6 months...
I personally think there will be further drop in price on these as returns will be only growing. So will be plenty refurbs available.

Generally speaking, the ones slagging ambilight are the ones who have never had a Philips ambilight tv and then there are the ones who think you can replicate it by sticking a strip of LEDs off eBay on the back, i.e those who have no idea of the concept
Can someone explain the concept of Ambilight please? I thought it was just for appearance purposes. Sounds like from comment above there's more to it than that!
Yeh apparently the 7and 8 series are the ones. To go for... - for only slightly more in black Friday sales I might add

Sure they will go on sale again..

& when they do... This tigger is going to pounce.

It's a bout time you got a new one...

Then send her for the TV...
I bought a 8204 in the sales from Currys eBay in Dec for £449, the ambilight is great but I have a couple of small niggles with the TV (random volume dropping off) so much so I've opened a return via eBay but after looking online I can't get anything like it spec wise from Philips for the price so I'm going to keep it.

As above, the ambilight is a game changer for me.

I am fairly sure they have had that update now, check on avforums

My 8204 has iPlayer?
@Kyrt Ill check when I get home if there are any software updates available for download and report back later.

@returnofthemac it wasn't that the TV doesn't have Iplayer, a lot of people including me have problems where there is no volume when playing anything with Iplayer

Yes, mine was the same until the last time I re started the TV.

It's basically a set of leds embedded into the back of the TV that projects light influenced by what is showing on each side of the screen so unlike a dumb LED strip you place on the back of any TV Ambilight has on-board processing. Really large amount of settings available to tailor it to your preference. Ambilight alone provides pretty immersive viewing but when you link it to Philips hue bulbs (easy to do I the settings) then it becomes extraordinarily immersive. The only problem with it is once you've gone Ambilight then you are stuck with Philips TV's as they hold the patent. And you wouldn't want to be without it!

Thanks, I like mine too, but frustrating that I am still using an 1080p Firestick to stream iPlayer on a 4k TV because even using the green button on the BBC channels is unreliable.
Thanks for the information; I really hope it gets rectified quickly.
The Ambilight confusingly angered my wife and we now have it turned off at all times.

Hmm this or a Hisense u7b which is often the same price?

Was going to buy this. Not too clued up on TV’s. Is it worth paying the extra for the Philips? The ambilight does sound decent

Is it me or does that TV have a picture of a bum with a rash squashed against some glass?

Why is this online only? Strange
How does this compare to the 55PUS8204/12 55"? Bought one for £549, but this is the same size but £150 cheaper :/

I bought the u7b for my mum but neither of us are that impressed with the picture especially on SD. Personally, I'd exchange it for this but I don't think she can be bothered (she's in her 70s).

The ONLY difference I can see if that one is 1200PPI and one is 1900PPI

Will that make a noticeable difference?

I'm already considering returning my TV because of a blemish on the screen, so I'm wondering if I should just save £150 in the process.
