AVForums link above says they LG C9 shades it but then you add Ambilight so think that’s your decision
Keep in mind AVForums does say software is flaky based on user comments but getting better for smarts

I am on the fence, had said if it dropped again would do it but don’t know whether to just sit it out until 2020 models / sale on 2019 as current tv is ok

I'm probably being biased towards the Philips as I've recently replaced an LG set with a Philips and the differences are the Philips knocks rings around the LG in terms of picture quality and input lag etc and the ambilight benefits.

If you read that link the there are some differences between the two but whether any of them will actually matter when you are sat in front of either is another matter.
I have both in 65 inch ( Philips is going back soon )

Main Difference

LG C9 is HDMI 2 which means LG more future proof and better resale value

Os on LG is LGWebOs far better than Android

Swirl Stand on Philips look better and more practical

Obvious Ambilight on Philips which are a WoW

Sky deal on LG

AirPlay for iPhones / iPads etc missing on Philips
Support is almost zero on Philips . I love to play my photo and video now and then but philips can’t
Philips can cast web video though

Picture quality is same . Absolutely no difference.. may be side by side has differences and Philips is better on picture .

Sound is little better on C9

Lot of menu options to play on LG . It like a toy :-)

But if I have buy again I would buy LG C9 ... Android is not so good ... it freezes now and then .

So from experience LG C9 better.

Can't believe how much this has come down in price and how quickly too. I have been tempted by this set but will wait to see what 2020 models have to offer. Heat added, great find op

Which is better with motion for football matches?. Iv heard that the abl is annoying on the Philip's as it kicks in too quickly, how is it on the LG?.

Awesome thanks, based on your comments i will be getting the Philips.

Most content will come via USB or nearby iMac that I have plugged in and will be getting an Apple TV. I think most of the things you mentioned are not relevant for most people and the added ambilight is a just too much of massive pro versus this other small things.

Wish you all the best with your purchase.
If you're a gamer, the HDMI 2.1 support on the LG is a must have.
Shame. Just bought C9 last week at £1730 from RS. Anyone knows how it's looks with the returns at RS? They will charge me 10%? Also, if someone ever price match same tv with different stand? Obviously it's not the same model but will give them a call tomorrow as they have 804 not the 854.

Thanks for your feedback and posting, sure it will help some others too, the C9 certainly seems a great TV, maybe a better option for some. Mostly I just want a decent working panel as the sources of my content as I said will generally not be via the smart features of the TV and i'm not looking at gaming that much to worry about HDMI 2.

I do worry a little bit about buggy software on the Philips and i suspect they will drop software support pretty quickly for it once new models come out, but then again my current TV is a dumb Panasonic Plasma and I play 100% of content on it via usb or HDMI via laptop.
Is hdmi 2 needed for 120hz?

similar here but also throwing the Samsung qled into the equation after seeing the picture though the c9 does look amazing close up. I am torn on whether to just hold off and see what’s released price wise after CES

I am big fan of Qled and I already got Samsung 75Q900R since march 2019. It has ineradicable picture and software is outstanding. Even though it does 8k up scaling, HD content look great on it considering its 75 inch size. I spend over 5000 on this set. where couple of months later its update version came out model 75Q950R is now 4499 with free galaxy note 10+ Which makes me learn that I will never ever going to pay on new sets. always best to buy new tv in Dec or Jan. Now I want oled for master bedroom considering it does not have big windows as i have in living room. CES 2020, Lg CX and Samsung x950TS are the best options. problem is that prices their would be high on untill at least Nov - Dec 2020.
C9 has advantage of hdmi 2.1, low lag, with sky offer price is very attractive choice. Ambilight + low price would have make Phillips good choice but now spending same as c9 on Philips without future proofing and no sky offer doesnt make sense to me. I hope c9 goes further down before 23 Jan 2020 would be great as sky offer ends on 23rd.

What benefit do you expect to get from HDMI 2.1 with the C9 set in your bedroom ? My understanding is it's for 120fps 4K and VRR (i.e. games) otherwise I dont' see any point in it ?

That’s true. It’s vary from person to person in my case I do gaming often got Xbox one x, keep in mind Xbox series x later coming out this year. Even though I am not going to do gaming from bedroom but still would like tv to be future proof as pay for it. eARC makes hdmi 2.1 also very attractive. Playing file giving you along high res Dolby Atmos/Dts:x sound on return channel would be great. If Philips has 400-500 difference in price then I would go for it. Now lg c9 a lot cheaper than Philips 854 considering lg throwing in sky q offer. Already paying £30 for sky which I will get free for 18 months.

dropped out of the sky rat race last year, I had three years of 60% to 75% off but they offered me next to nothing to stay so left - don’t think I want to get sucked in again! They asked me what I would do instead - now tv £100 quid for the year movies and entertainment, up the Netflix to 4K and had prime for The delivery option - saved a few hundred a year though do miss the sport occasionally.

I agree with you sky is a Kinda trap but now tv is also crap it’s limited to 720p. It’s look not great on 65+ TVs. Wish now tv cloud move to 1080p. I am already in this sky trap, this offer kinda make sense. Hope these oled prices drop

What make me upset is in USA, LG officially still on sale for 65 C9 at $2099 or . Whereas here in UK all C9 offers are gone. Hopefully its a pre-sale thing as you mentioned above. Sad I missed sky Q for free offer as it ends 23 Jan :(. No hope it will go on sale before 23 Jan.

I completely agree with this guy, especially if you're planning on grabbing a PS5 or Xbox Series X this year as those consoles will make full use of that VRR.

What I want to know is when is TCL going to sell their Series 6/8 models in the UK? They looked amazing at CES yet we don't get a look in here.
