- cartzukGreat tv. Love the 4 sided ambilight.
Paid £779 nov20 for reference. - a2kcollettAs an owner of a few months if I could go back I would of gone with a better tv and done a custom led solution with Hyperion for the ambi light effect instead.
Lights are good but I just find the tv so slower, much slower than my 2015 lg tv.

There's nothing there about zigbee devices. It is a philips thing.
Right I am going to say this once, because frankly, I find it rude when you respond literally less than a minute where it shows you haven't blatantly looked at the link I sent.

You do not need the Philips hue sync box all you need is the Philips hue standard hub. (edited) - redduckWhy sites the photo say OLED and only show 3 sides of ambilight? It's got to be the wrong photo in the post

Must admit I love my Philips LED TV but best to get something additional to give you the smart features as the processor is hopeless and often find lag or stuttering during viewing....which is a shame.
Hmm... I've got a 8000 series 2019 set and I find it runs really smoothly with 4k content on the inbuilt apps. Is your WiFi solid? That might give you the same symptoms you mentioned - WibblefishThis or the 82" LG at Costco for a grand? 😬.
I love the 3 sided ambilight on my 58" but the LG would take up the whole remaining wall so is uneeded. Which is the best picture and quality for 4k movies and gaming performance? - truxntrax1I have this TV. No issues with os, speed or picture. My only criticism is It is very 'fat'! Tbh I still can't make my mind up about the ambilight. It's odd sometimes, kind of slow to react and can be distracting.

Sorry mate to come out that way, but I had searched before replying to you. I searched for Hyperion with zigbee which led me down to a different rabbit hole.
Cheers for this. Had I known this before, I may have gone for some other tv. - ThisIsWhyImBroke

WHat is the difference, mate, when you do that?
The colours are considerably brighter, more saturated and just more dynamic for want of a better word. The standard setting on a white wall even with brightness turned up is reasonably subtle. Telling the settings that my white wall is yellow makes it try harder as the colours would be lost against a yellow wall. It lights up my entire 8 feet high by 15 feet wide ish wall. - Stetec

You can't do a custom led solution and link zigbee devices. As far as I'm aware you need a hue sync box for that which costs a lot.
I do agree with tv being slow, but I haven't seen any TV with a performanct android OS. (edited) - a2kcollett

Yeh you can - kelv1nI got one at Xmas, the good Is Amiblight works brilliantly and the pictures is good quality. The bad is Android TV is slow, but it runs Plex well enough and can steam 4k - I personally use it for gaming, it'll do 60hz at 4k, or 120h, as 1440p.
Given the size and the price, this is good value.
I've owned Ambilights for the best part of 15 year - my first one was. A 42" Plasma screen which cost £2000. - wickjnr

Me too. Ambilight is amazing, REALLY amazing, but the software is a killer. Also my 3 year old Philips has developed a dark shadow horizontally across the middle of the TV.
I wouldn't buy a Philips TV again. - Stowgood

I actually think that looks really good. Just off topic slightly, I’m currently refitting my kitchen and about to purchase some smart gu10 bulbs there is never any offers on the Philips gu10’s how do you rate the Lidl ones? Do they disconnect and fail to reconnect a lot? Especially if manually turned off by the switch. - dave.scottzWf

thank you for this. Is there a dummies guide/video?
I have a Samsung Q series TV which I'm happy with.
Have installed (stuck) Hue LED strip on the back of TV an also have Hue wall lights at each either side. Obviously it's just static lights for a bit of evening viewing but if there's a way to get the similar AmbiLight experience then that would be awesome.

You will need to change to WS2811 style led strips so you can change an led individually so can have multi colour leds.
I actually found some bargain LEDs called dreamcolour which work well in my living room, my plan was to link them to the tv however things are paused at mo but may do this in the future.
For a walkthrough on ambient lighting using hyperion the Video by DR Zzs is pretty good. - a2kcollett

The bulbs for me work perfectly, haven't had any issues with not connecting.
The only downside I would say is they don't dim as low as the hue bulbs and I needed to modify my downlighter housing because they were slightly longer, but at around £6-8 a bulb they were a bargain. - loofer

thank you. Were your strips actually changing colour by each LED as it appeared to be in sections?
Shame I would have to buy another set of strips, you'd think having Hue would be best starting point but I know what you mean about individual LEDs. Bit of a limitation with a supposedly premium product. To be honest, I don't think I use them to whatever their full advantage is.The LED strip in kitchen stays on same colour.
The rest in living room (wall lights & LED strip) I rarely ever mess around with colour/dimming.

Ah yep that was just the effect I had on but each LED is programmable, the video doesn't actually capture the later effect very well either. The only limitation you have with hyperion is it can't do the effect with inbuilt apps so will need external source e.g. from a firestick or amp - uchihasilverFor this price point 400 nits peak brightness is awful
