Great detail

Enjoy incredible clarity in everything you see with the Philips 55PUS8204/12 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV. With HDR and a resolution four times better than Full HD, you'll get bright colours and sharper images.

It'll upscale your older shows and movies too, letting you rediscover your favourites as you've never seen them before.

Be immersed with Ambilight

From movies to games, get more immersed in your content with Philips Ambilight. Intelligent LEDs around the edges of the TV panel cast the colours on your screen onto the wall behind it and into your room, creating a stunning effect that will make your screen feel bigger and give every show a tailored, real-time light show.

Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

With Dolby Vision technology, every scene is enhanced for a brilliantly vivid image. Finer details are deeper, skin tones look more natural, and motion appears perfectly smooth - ideal for fast paced sports and movies.

Dolby Atmos gives your audio a boost too, for a full sensory experience that captures all the original richness of your content. Everything will look and sound more real than ever.

Convenience at your fingertips

Say goodbye to endless scrolling and use your voice to control your TV. With the in-built Google Assistant, whether you search for a movie on Netflix or find an app in the Play Store, all you need to do is ask. You can even control other Google Assistant compatible devices around your home, like smart light bulbs or the thermostat without even needing to get up.

With the Google Play store and the Philips App Gallery, there's loads of content for you to explore. Get movies, boxsets, music, apps, games, and more all directly to your TV – there's something to keep everyone happy.

Worth noting for those unaware, by going from 50 inch to 55 inch, you go from a VA panel to IPS.

So may be worth looking into the pros and cons of each. Main things being VA has better blacks and contrast, but IPS has better viewing angles.

got 43 inch Sony. Use ARC return on HDMI for my Sony sound system. Do most TVs have this? Looking to move up to larger plus 4k.. would 50 be a decent jump?
Also anyone know how long the stands are on these. My stand was strictly for 32 inch but have my 43 on and fine.
Happy Easter all.

This site is good for full specifications on TV's and panel types. The below link is for the 50 inch version but I am sure you could find the 55 inch version if need be.

Yup, you'd be hard pushed to find a decent TV that doesn't feature ARC these days. It's pretty much standard.

And yes, you will see a decent jump. We went from 42" to 55" and it was a huge difference. More so when the 55" went for repair and we had to go back to 42"!!

What about to 50.inch? Would that be enough?

Likely yes. But the comment above about weighing the pros and cons of the screen types used in the 50" and 55" is excellent advice and before you do anything else I'd research them so you can find the perfect screen type for your viewing habits and room.

Of course the best advice is to go and see the TV in person but I appreciate that's not possible right now. Maybe wait till lockdown is over?

Yes, sounds like a sensible idea on all levels, including financial!
Recently went for this in 55” from a 50 in non 4K. Pictures is superb in comparison and the ambilight follow video is a game changer. Only use the ambilight for movies as such but I don’t think id go back to a non ambilight now.

I have the 65” where all 4 of its HDMIs are ARC, I think all the 8000 series are the same

We have an L Shape sofa, where I sit on the end. TV is sat on a set of Ikea units, perfect height, I have seen this unit wall mounted but loses its Ambilight effect as the colour only does top and sides, where with it being on a unit the colour covers the whole wall area

The only reflection I see is from the light blasting in through our patio doors, but close the curtains and problem solved (can be seen above the blue caption in picture)

As I said, great TV, works in sync with other Hue Bulbs also to great effect
