Great detail

Enjoy incredible clarity in everything you see with the Philips 55PUS8204/12 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV. With HDR and a resolution four times better than Full HD, you'll get bright colours and sharper images.

It'll upscale your older shows and movies too, letting you rediscover your favourites as you've never seen them before.

Be immersed with Ambilight

From movies to games, get more immersed in your content with Philips Ambilight. Intelligent LEDs around the edges of the TV panel cast the colours on your screen onto the wall behind it and into your room, creating a stunning effect that will make your screen feel bigger and give every show a tailored, real-time light show.

Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

With Dolby Vision technology, every scene is enhanced for a brilliantly vivid image. Finer details are deeper, skin tones look more natural, and motion appears perfectly smooth - ideal for fast paced sports and movies.

Dolby Atmos gives your audio a boost too, for a full sensory experience that captures all the original richness of your content. Everything will look and sound more real than ever.

Convenience at your fingertips

Say goodbye to endless scrolling and use your voice to control your TV. With the in-built Google Assistant, whether you search for a movie on Netflix or find an app in the Play Store, all you need to do is ask. You can even control other Google Assistant compatible devices around your home, like smart light bulbs or the thermostat without even needing to get up.

With the Google Play store and the Philips App Gallery, there's loads of content for you to explore. Get movies, boxsets, music, apps, games, and more all directly to your TV – there's something to keep everyone happy.

How come the 58 inch version was cheaper than this?

Because it was a different shop, offering a different model (costco offered the 58pus7304, currys are offering the 55pus8204)

7 series 1200 picture index
8 series 1900 index.
Just to compare oled starts at 5000.
Thanks
1700 ppi on the 7 series so marginal difference.
Bought this cyber Monday for the same price.
Really pleased with it.
Only issue is, no itvhub, 4 on-demand or UKTV play apparently support maybe added for these at later date
I got a couple of the 58in versions and the look beautiful. They will do for the time being all the up until the oleds become a standard or past generation TVs ..

The 7 series on the 58in used under half the wattage as my Samsung TV it was replacing so it will pay for itself in the next two to three years Vs running on my older set which was on constantly lol

I had same issue. Did latest firmware and can now access the apps you mention via the Freeview play app link which opens a side menu. They still don't work on the main home screen links tho which is annoying. I'm hoping this will eventually be fixed.

AFAIK "picture index" is marketing BS and not a real world measurement. The same applies to Samsung PQI, it's whatever the marketing department needs to sell the model at the target price.
Ambilight is truly special, love it!

Hi mate. I’ve got two Hue Go lamps on the shelf just below the TV which are controlled by the TV. The rest of the bulbs and strip in the room are controlled through the phone app. The Go lamps I have are the original ones, ie not Bluetooth, and the TV links to the hub to control the Go lamps to extend the ambilight. I’m not sure whether the 2.0 Hue Go lamps behave differently (but as they don’t need a hub, I’m sure they do).

I’ve got some stuff from the spare bedroom in this room at the moment as I’m decorating but as soon as it’s done and I can move stuff out, I’ll connect it all together and see how it looks. I’ve still got some tinkering to do but the TV is excellent

All updates done, have an email from Philips tech department saying these apps are not available on the 8204 and will be possibly updated at some point.
Manual says UK models should have Freeview play but they don't. If you download the itvhub it comes up with error about not the right permissions from the developer

Settings > general settings > reinstall tv > turn location settings ON during setup > enjoy all the apps your email from Philips says don’t exist on the 8204.

decline to turn location settings on? Your television won’t be able to see location specific apps for the UK in the Google Play Store.
Thanks, still thinking of getting the 7304 for £500 with membership, though its a lot of money. Really wanted something around 300-350

Location settings were set to on, but doesn't matter as using it with sky
🤷

Sorry meant to quote @JamesJacked not sure what happened there!

Did wonder
Hopefully this is not too silly a question - this TV has a Satellite connection as well as aerial so does this mean that you can both satellite and terrestrial channels tuned in at the same time or do you need to make a choice between which input you tune in?

Can someone confirm my previous app support question? Does it have BT sport, Amazon prime and now tv, and Apple TV?

Only Amazon Prime from what I can see, mine has just arrived.

Have you performed the whole update cycle? Mine didn't work and I had to do the following:

Go to Settings > General Settings and then Reinstall TV (note this is a bit of a pain as you have to basically set the TV up from scratch)

Once the TV set-up is complete, un-plug the TV from the mains and restart it.

This seems to have solved it for me, I now have all of the Freeview Play apps on there.
I got this TV from this deal through currys, but had to return first one due to light bleed. Second one has the same problem... Not sure whether I ask for another one... And they all come deal broken...

Done the dark room , empty screen

Anyone know what this is?

It's seems like a weird patch of pixels which don't seem to do anything?

Other than that I'm happy with the TV.

Bought from currys online, had the same lightbleed on the 65 inch version along the bottom left mainly. Returned it second one looked like the box had been opened has same issue almost exactly in the same spot, I'm thinking about returning, shame really as apart from that seems a great tv but put off as I specifically asked for a sealed box so think they are just boxing these back up & sending out again.. what did you do?

Returned it today... I think they are just trying and hoping it will end up with someone who does not notice the problem. Now I am back to zero and need a TV by this weekend. I will try JL or Costco... Need a decent backlit , IPS panel... May be Sony xf80

Not impressed by currys trying to fob used faulty tv's as new.
Edited by: "jsd71" 7th Jan
Is this IPS?

When I lay down on the sofa like a lazy mong the colour seems to wash out a little... is this normal?

I do have the TV mounted quite high on a chimney breast, but my old TV didn't have this and the viewing was perfect from all angles.
