This model in particular appears to use an IPS panel which might be a deal breaker for some.
I have this tv, its very good, lightning fast through all menus, it only has bbc iplayer, the manual says it has freeview play, but philips say it is being added via a firmware upgrade, it will then have all the catch ups,

Win for me, can't stand VA panels, absolute junk. Can't look at them the motion blur and stuttering is enough to give you a headache

Depends on what people pick up on. With both audio and visual some people can't notice that something looks or sounds terrible.

I spent a lot of money on really a expensive Samsung TV and over 900 on a monitor. Took me a couple of days with both to realise just how bad the ghosting/juddering was and that nothing could fix it, both were unusable for me, had to go back

Have an old Hitachi IPS screen in my workshop. Not great blacks but otherwise great

Hitachi actually invented IPS. Back when the Japanese companies led in electronics. OLED is obviously the best choice these days but also has its drawbacks like anything.

Yeap Pus8204 55 inch. Check under update history as you may well have automatic software update switched on. If that's the case switch off at the mains and restart

When you do the update, do a TV reinstall after in Settings > General. I had issues with the update until I contacted them, they said this is an important step and restart at the mains

Ambilight is just a gimmick

Ambilight is just a gimmick

Yup, but really good. You can use the tv lights for loads of other uses, not just enhancing action movies. If you have hue bulbs, then its even better.
I have this and it's awful. Very slow and I cannot get the subtitles on, on Freeview! ITV hub isn't compatible and BBC iPlayer only works sometimes

Nonsense , you either dont have this model, its faulty, or you havent updated the software, Its lightning fast through the menus. do a software update, then Reinstall tv, this will add all the catch ups ,software, ect, it will also totally reset the tv aswell.

Any idea on how to do the update ? If I could upload a video to show you how slow it is I would !

Oh and I definitely have this model. It was £650 in the black Friday sales and I've made sure I got the 55PUS8204/12 model as it was supposed to be a top of the range for this tv.

I too now have this tv since black friday and it's been brilliant my first foray into ambilight and I'm sold. I've also picked up the 5 hue bulb set from ao. And its defo improved movies and normal tv! It's been really quick the only thing I cannot get to work is turning the tv on from google the first time it's on from a 'cold' start after it's been on and off its fine! Will update it though!

Hi, what philips need to do is move ambilight+hue from out of the menu and onto the ambilight button, very minor niggle, but hopefully they will do eventually., Merry xmas mate.

Yeah it is a hard call as the £700 saved would pay for the next Xbox and keep me in the good books with the wife by keeping a steady supply if choccies and weird flavoured gin in the house
Brought this Black Friday, Cracking tv would defo recommend it. Brilliant picture and love the ambilight

Will try to, got the Xmas presents to wrap yet. They won't refund as it had to be done within 7 days for price match since since buying it. The price dropped by £50 on Curry's website and it was 8 days since I've purchased it and they wouldn't honour that with a price match
