I was waiting for it to drop down in price again and just have had my alert from camelcamelcamel

After putting up with a lousy Morphy Richards one I need something to get my shirts nice and non-creased in little time.

Philips Azur GC4890/02 Steam iron with 50g continuous steam and 200g steam boost

This powerful Philips Azur iron is a power tool for ironing with more steam and the most robust soleplate of all irons. Nothing can scratch this iron while it glides smoothly over your garment. The powerful steam boost helps you to blast all creases away easily. Together with its powerful steam performance and its Anodilium soleplate, for constant high steam output, it gives you all you need for ideal results. This range is designed to provide long lasting results and faster crease removal.

Philips Azur is designed for ironing perfection -- faster crease removal and long lasting results. The Philips SteamGlide soleplate glides smoothly and easily across all fabrics, reaching into the trickiest of areas with its pointed tip with button groove. Built for optimal performance day after day, this reliable iron will not let you down. Its high steam output delivers powerful consistent steam for ideal results, every time. Some models also come with a handy heat resistant storage box for extra safety and convenient storage.

Features

Powerful steam for faster crease removal

Steam output is measured in grams of weight as it leaves the soleplate. The heavier the output the deeper the steam can reach into the fabric layers for longer lasting crease removal. This steam iron has a powerful continuous steam output of 50g per minute for consistently fast results and a 200g steam boost for deep crease removal. Thanks to the carefully crafted soleplate design, the steam is distributed evenly across the soleplate. This way you need fewer ironing strokes to evenly moisten the garment and therefore less time to complete the ironing.

Vertical Steam

The iron can be used vertically and the steam is powerful enough to be used to iron out creases from curtains or hanging clothes for example suit jackets or dresses that might need a refresh.

Anodilium soleplate

Anodilium soleplate is one of the best Philips soleplate for your steam iron. It has great scratch resistance, glides excellent and is easy to clean. It also has excellent durability.

Double Active Calc System

Double Active Calc system of your Philips steam iron prevents scale build-up through anti scale pills and an easy to use calc clean function. Make sure you regularly use this function after every 10 uses to extend the lifetime of your iron.

Drip-stop system

The Drip Stop system of your Philips steam iron lets you iron delicate fabrics at low temperatures without having to worry about stains from water droplets. Water tank capacity: 350ml, with a Max. water level marker on the tank to avoid over filling.

Spray

The spray function produces a fine mist that evenly moistens the fabric making it easier to iron out creases.

Safety auto off

The appliance shuts off automatically when left unattended. If it is left on it's heel rest it will switch off in 8 minutes. When left on the soleplate or on the side, it only takes 30 seconds before the iron shuts off.

You'll have no excuse not to do the ironing

hmm...

That would be problematic as I need to keep my wife occupied.

None if the other half is using it. As long as its not launched/ flying at me at an unstoppable speed.

I have a Bosch iron that has a burn mark on the plate - bloomin shame because it was a brilliant iron! I may go for this one, looks nice! No idea how some people can have the same iron for years and we get through at least 4 a year.

Might be a good idea to use deionised water to prolong the life of the iron, however the additional cost might not make it worthwhile

Awesome iron, I recommend it highly. Went from a very expensive iron to this and very pleased!

It is great while it works.

We have this iron and it does a decent job but it's pretty difficult to read the settings on the dial as the writing is red on black and is a fine font - but other than that it's a good iron

Ever since getting a little dehumidifier from Maplin, around the same time as we got a new iron, we’ve had a constant predictable supply of deionised water. I’m not entirely sure that all of the water the dehumidifier collects is actually all the steam that the iron put out last time, but there you go. Hopefully the iron will last longer this time due to this magic water.

We have this, been the best iron so far.

Arg. Got this for £47 in Tesco last week >_>

Tempted, the OHs steam generator keeps packing up.

Great thanks.

Think you get a 2 year guarantee with Philips?!

Ordered mine (for the wife) on Thursday at the higher price and it arrived today. Just phoned up now about this price drop and as a one off good will gesture they refunded the difference.
They are also replacing some faulty headphones I ordered in December.
Great customer service.

Ironing.

Hot.

I dropped my one and the tip of it is now scratchy & a teeny tiny bit bent so things can catch on it.

Expensive mistake!

I'll need deionised water to avoid the yucky brown marks too.

Move to a soft water area? Easier said than done I know.

Do a google search on using water from dehumidifier not advisable, I was thinking the same.

As for iron have one and at this price its a steal. Good iron.

I have this iron, it's pretty good. Can generate a lot of steam.

DO NOT USE DEIONISED WATER. It warns not to in the manual. This series is built with the assumption that users will be using normal tap water, so it is designed with this in mind. You risk damaging the iron if using deionised water.

I've had this for a while now, and it's great. Going from a cheap 'steam generator' iron to this, I won't be buying anything off-brand again either. Lesser spec from a better manufacturer is definitely a better option (in relation to irons...)

You will be surprised we use for 4 years iron which bought for £10 and no high brand as Bosch or Philips. And it's still doing it's job excellently.

Bought. Thanks.
