Ooo, that looks promising - I was tempted to get this from Amazon for £102.49 but it's gone back up to £119. Might try and persuade Mrs Mike to go to Asda at the weekend!

Shame it's not the Sony, still expensive at Asda.

Anything on 40"+ tv's?

Blu ray players should do well this xmas with lots of them going for under £100

Original Poster

It's in the ASDA gift guide for £160!

Omg Amazing I Love It Amazing!!!!!

Does anybody know if this player is any good ?

Doh! Just looked in ASDA for this.... didn't read properly! Seems good. Voted hot.

Sorry, Ive not got my serious head on today.
]Blu-ray Disc (BD), sometimes called "Blu-ray", is an optical disc storage medium designed to supersede the standard DVD format. Its main uses are for storing high-definition video, PlayStation 3 video games, and other data, with up to 25 GB per single layered, and 50 GB per dual layered disc. The disc has the same physical dimensions as standard DVDs and CDs.

The name Blu-ray Disc derives from the blue-violet laser used to read the disc. While a standard DVD uses a 650 nanometer red laser, Blu-ray uses a shorter wavelength, a 405 nm blue-violet laser, and allows for almost six times more data storage than a DVD.

During the format war over high-definition optical discs, Blu-ray competed with the HD DVD format. Toshiba, the main company supporting HD DVD, ceded in February 2008, and the format war ended;[2] in July 2009, Toshiba announced plans to put out its own Blu-ray Disc device by the end of 2009.[3]

Blu-ray Disc was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association, a group representing makers of consumer electronics, computer hardware, and motion pictures. As of June 2009, more than 1500 Blu-ray disc titles are available in Australia, 2500 in Japan, 1500 in the United Kingdom, and 2500 in the United States and Canada.

Review here. Apparently they like it for £170 so bargain for £100. Oh and it does do 24p but seems a bit juddery, odd as this is what it is supposed to remove.

wow a saving of 5 quid from amazon. i will be online at the asda website poised with my debit card, wish me luck.

No comment! :whistling:

Or even Seaman Staines ?

This Player has had some good write ups by Amazon customers. Excellent value for money. M & S selling it cheap (only today) and Amazon at circa £102.

There are Samsung players that are in this price range and also play mkv files - can anyone confirm if the Phillips plays them, as for some reason, some tech specs on players seem to miss this fact out - god knows why as its an excellent selling point.....

This is now back on ]Amazon at £102.49!

heat and rep, good find

Went into two ASDA stores this morning. This first (smaller one) didn't have any of these in stock and didn't know about the deal. The second (a much larger Wal Mart ASDA) had some in stock at £137 but said that the promotion on these players does not start until Monday. Will have to wait a couple of days .... ho hum.

Heat added.

Deffo not on in my local either

I am thinking of getting a blu-ray player for my DH for Christmas, but I have no idea which to get. Is this a good deal for the money? Do I need to buy a HDMI lead to go with it ?

Thank you

are you able to play back up dvd's on this machine (not originals)?

Just picked one up. Still in the box. Ticket price still £137.The Asda people in electricals still didn't know anything about the deal. I insisted they checked with their bar code reader and guess what it read ... £97. Now going to plug it in to see if it is as good as the reviews I've read.

Ooh I hope so, just ordered one from Amazon as our Asda didn't have any left, the shelf ticket price was £97 as this deal stated though

Worth noting that these are available on ASDAs website for £97 too.

Got it go through with 3.50 postage so £100.50 all in. Bit cheaper than Amazon's price.

]Amazon now at £99.99!

Reading Lower Earley have quite a few of these in stock if anyone's looking for one..

Just picked mine up this More at Asda Owlcoates, Leeds...really nice goes well with everything can't moan at the price

Called in the bridgend store today and they had i'd say at least 20+ for £97

Cancelled my order and went with the Amazon deal in the end.

Mainly because it's for a christmas present and Amazon is extending their returns period until end of Jan I think. Couldn't see the same at Asda.

Just got one from asda middlesbrough and put my ps3 upstairs philips blu ray player does seem to have the edge performance wise

Richer sounds also have this for £99.95
]http//ww…000

Anyone have the dimensions for this?

ignroe that I didnt notice it on the post!

just got one from very £99 - £30 of first order +free delivery code +9% quidco makes it roughly £62.83
saw it posted on here somewhere
