DAB radios are very heavy on batteries so allow for this.

DAB radios are very heavy on batteries so allow for this.

Depends which model ,i get 19 hours out of my Roberts R519 Gemini which i find very acceptable from 4 AA rechargables.

This looks decent for £20 so hot from me.

These the same as the ones Ebay had on deal?
Power output of 300 mW RMS doesn't sound great to me ( no pun intended ) or is this a new way of stating it ?

Approximately 8 hours life from 6xAA alkaline batteries according to the manual. Not great really.
why the hell is it powered by batteries

They are banned from here
Wonder if one can just pop into store and buy off the shelf
great design, but need to know what the sound quality is like. The whole point of DAB is it's supposed to sound much better than analogue, so all these manufacturers selling DAB radios with mono speakers or poor quality speakers really defeats the purpose of DAB.

Why are they banned, just out of curiosity? They've got 5322 feedback, 99.8% of that positive, and the detailed seller ratings are about as high as you could get.

I ordered one from them for £19.99 on Friday, it was sent, no postage charge, the same day via DPD (a very decent carrier), and it will be with me tomorrow. Can't really get much better than that, can it?

It may make little difference in reality if you accept the arguments about the impact of reduced bit-rate transmissions on DAB sound quality.

No, that's not the point at all, the point is to cram as many low bitrate stations into as small a spectrum as possible, oh, and sell off the rest of the frequency for as much as possible.

yeah that's the more cynical version which might be true, but hope my version of the story i.e. better quality sound, come out on top

It's even worse than that - not all current DAB radios will work when/if DAB+ replaces DAB, though at least this one will.
Odd. Normally show a union jack to many on here and the cold votes flow.Ask the dopes WHY and they wouldn't have an answer, as they're too busy voting "hot" to anything with Palestinian or Pakistani flags !!! X)
£22 from Amazon if you want it delivered.
Or look on ebay and you will find the seller banned on hukd £19.99 delivered.

Still waiting to hear from a Mod on why the eBay seller's strangely 'banned'?
Shame it's not the Evoke 2-S on offer (though I know they're much more expensive). I'm assuming this is mono?

The one I've got is a Tesco (don't laugh) DAB and it actually sounds pretty good. DAB109FD http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-109-fd-dab-radio-black-and-silver/209-3790.prd

This one is £17.97 though can't vouch for the quality: tesco.com/dir…el= (probably comparable to the Philips).

I've got this radio (in black, but I so want this one!).

The sound quality is quite nice for the size, very clear for speech and not bad for music - the tuner picks up stations very well too. I use it for taking around the house or into the garage\shed, it's quite small. I've always though battery life was pretty good - 8 hours on a set of 6 AA rechargeable batteries, if you're going to listen to it for a long time you can run it off the mains.

It does have it's irritations. It's easy to click the volume\tuning buttons by accident when you pick it up and it's a bit of a faff to have to pull the stand out when you want to prop it up. But, for £20 it's an excellent DAB radio.

I did pay £15 for it from Asda a year ago though...
There's a thread about DAB+ on here, though I've seen it mentioned on AVForums before too. forums.digitalspy.co.uk/sho…e=4 Basically saying that it's not happening any time soon.

Well I ordered one from them anyway as it'll save me a quid in petrol!
Does it show the music that's playing/other updates on the display? It appears some cheaper DABs don't show it (at least a stereo Bush one I'm looking at). Thinking of getting one for my sis.

Come on Syzable[MOD] - explain WHY that particular eBay Seller is banned. We want to know!
I have this model eats batteries so much that I have stuck to normal FM

Sorry, only just revisited this thread. The reason for the eBay seller ban is under their merchant details.

Oh the irony!
camelopardis

Oh the irony!

Irony? How does a spelling or grammatical error constitute irony? It doesn't diminish, invalidate or change the meaning or opinions stated does it? Spelling mistakes happen. To all of us. To think that reduces the value of what is being said or the intellect of who said it, is so irrational as to be laughable.

(If I misunderstood your "Oh the irony!" comment along with the bold text emphasis on the spelling/grammar mistake, I apologise - it simply appears to be a childish retort void of any intelligence - which is, some may consider, ironic).

Banned or not, this eBay seller has provided impeccable service, as evidenced by his feedback and this (for an order only made on Friday):

Your order from xxx is out for delivery today by Rob your DPD driver and is due to be delivered between 10:56-11:56. Can you please ensure that someone will be available to sign for the parcel at:

Take a look on eBay if you haven't got a Home Bargains store near you. Still £19.99 delivered - and no, I don't have any connection with the seller!

Just look at Freeview channels - the quality is appalling compared to what analogue used to be!
"Just look at Freeview channels - the quality is appalling compared to what analogue used to be!"

It depends on where you live. Even with a masthead amplifier and a set amplifier nobody here got anything but rubbish analogue pictures which were very "snowy". Digital cured that immediately although they could still be better.

Digital radio is a total let down. Nobody who listens on a small portable like this can comment sensibly on transmission quality which is little or no better than the vhf frequencies.

What DAB did do was to allow a small number of UK radio manufacturers to charge silly prices because there was no international competition. Lets hope that changes.
I can't see DAB+ being implemented anytime soon as all those listeners who were conned by digital quality promises would need to buy another radio.

The one I ordered from the eBay Seller is out for delivery as well. Fantastic service. I have no connection to the Seller either.
nearest HB is 25 mins drive so ordered from the ebay seller yesterday, also been dispatched today, but wonder how it'll be packaged, don't want the orginal box all battered and messed up.
It's the Union flag. Only called Union Jack when flown on a ship. Anyway that's my petty thought but voted hot.
