this dvd player is ok for standard sets but for hd ready tv's, it is no better than a normal dvd player. when set for 1080i, it really compresses the picture that it will only play in letterbox mode and picture layers freeze at times.
the lip sync goes is out after setting it up first time so needs adjusting during the movie. this is due to the fast chipset that is ideal for compression. i had one from argos but returned it shortly after for this reason. i am yet to see a 'normal' dvd player play at 1080i, which is impossible without some sort of compression/bad picture quality(freeze frame)
the only good thing on this player is it's usb port, which allows pics/music from usb device on your tv. best to set this player to 720i, which is better and faster, and download new software(via dvdrw) if needed. otherwise a great buy, even now cheaper than £69 i paid.

all region hack is possible via info off the internet, so plays all region dvds.
divx plays ok but no better than your media player on pc, a bit scambled at times.
when it drops to under £30, i may buy again.

Quality player for regular DVD's (what I use mine for) and the DivX is top notch. Certified up to DivX Ultra. Also the usb slot on the front is a must have. Can fault it for the price! I love it.

Cold I'm afraid, £26.79 from Sainsburys. (instore)

just called sainsburys: 'we don't sell that model I'm afraid sir' :?

Just been to my Middlesbrough Sainsbury's and they do not stock this dvd player... just to save anyone else a trip to their local..

Can be made region-free aswell.

1. Open the disc tray
2. Press SETUP
3. Navigate to the preferences page
4. Enter 138931
5. Select the region using UP/DOWN (select 0 for multi-region)
6. Press PLAY

So can I attach my external HD to this via the USB and it will play my divx movies?
Do i need to arrange any file structure?

Think this may be the one I buy...

From a review "The DVD player itself was very simple to setup, pretty icons in the menus etc, but a little disappointed that I can only play .wmv files via the USB port. I would've loved to have connected my USB hard disc and played .avi's. Ah well." ah ****** if this is true...

From another review
Just hooked the Player up. All NTSC and PAL DVD's play with no issue. The PAL DVD's that I own are all region free. I also played mp3's, jpg's, divx and avi files from a small usb 512mb jump drive. All the files played with no issue

I am getting mine delivered tomorrow .... I will upgrade the hardware and will confirm if it plays .avi files from USB !!!! I have already got Sandisk Cruzer 4GB from amazon for £17.99 .... Lets see

Upscaling is meaningless on cheap players - let your expensive HDTV to the scaling instead, it'll almost certainly do a better job of it.

Ahh i wondered why everytime i put a dvd in i would get 2 black boxes , letter box mode i guess ....was really annoying me and i was worried incase it lest a screen burn on my new LCD tv?

Only seem to shift when i pressed zoom 1 on my TV so if i put the dvd player at 720i will the black boxes go?

Thanks

I use a 1GB USB stick to play DIVx's without any problems. So I would expect it to play AVI's aswell.

However, I don't know about connecting a USB hard disc ....

Yes !!! I can confirm that I am able to play avi files from Sandisk Cruzer 4GB USB Flash Drive. I had to remove U3 software which USB drive originally came with as player was complaining "Disk not supported".

Also made the player multi-region and applied the latest firmware without any problem. I think it is good value for money. Please note that I am using it on normal TV, therefore cannot comment on upscalling .....

Mine came with the latest firmware.

I used a memory card reader & played an avi off a Sony memory stick plugged into the usb memory card
