Over-ear means the pads go over your ears, not sit on them. These are very open. Everyone will hear what you're listening to
You should look for closed headphones.

There's plenty of over-ear closed headphones...

Bought these last time they were around this price. Very, very impressed!

Fantastic for fun music listening (bass and treble are hyped, but not too crazy, as I can still edit audio without too much fear) and wearing them while gaming is a dream. I can actually position footsteps in PUBG now!

Very comfy to wear as earmuffs (though not overly warm), so good for this time of the year!

Edit:

Oh, and I will comment on the sound leakage. Yeah, these leak like an open pair should. There's really nothing you can do about that. (Changing the pads will change the sound, so really not a fan of that.)

These are for home/CLOSED office use. Do please ask your partner/family before buying, as they'll be experiencing your music/games, too!

Hot, love these I use them on my PC with a V-Moda Boompro mic through a Fiio E10K and Syba USB (for the mic) and they're great! So comfortable. I paid £250 for mine a few months ago too, amazing price.

Top cans. Great price.

Over Ear/On Ear/In Ear is how the headphones fit.

Whether they're sealed or open to the outside is called Closed Back or Open Back.

These are open back ones, so will let more sound through to and from the outside.

Do these have any standout feature next to other open headphones at this price like Audio Technica AD500X, Beyedynamic DT990 or AKG K702?

Just to clarify the open/closed noise leakage debate, as far as I understand it. Earphones/buds go inside the ear. On ear headphones have pads that sit on the ear but usually have a closed back, meaning the outer sides of the unit won't leak noise but there may be some leakage from gaps between the ears and pads. Over ear phones, as described, enclose the ears, but those with an 'open back' will leak sound from the side of the headphones as opposed to the pads.

You can have on ear or over ear as closed back. It depends on driver design. If open the sound will leak through a number of different avenues like pads, or straight out of the ear cup or gaps as you stated.

Amazing price! Great sound stage for gaming paired with V-moda mic and the astro mix amp.

Open back headphones give a larger more open soundstage, closed back and in-ear feel more like the sound is in your head. Open back also tend to be more comfortable for extended periods as your ears don't get as hot. The downside is that everyone else can hear what you're listening to and you can hear noise around you.

They've got the most consistently good reviews of almost anything I've ever seen. I'm quite excited to get hold of a pair at this price. One 'feature' is they're very easy to drive, from a smartphone or almost anything, whereas a lot of headphones in this class require a headphone amp to get the best out of them.

Thanks OP, great price for exceptional headphones. They were rated highly when they were almost double the price, so a great buy now.

Great gaming cans, work well without an amp, steal at this price.

Bass and soundstage are it's traits. Recessed mids. To me very dynamic and fun. I don't think they're great for mixing or editing, producing etc, being V-Shaped. Bass is definitely more prominent to say the K702 which severely lacks it.
At this price it's hard to suggest any other open headphone. If the HD600 were their previous price, around £200, I would get both for best of both worlds. Wide, Fun. And then intimate and neutral.

I haven't heard the Beyedynamic DT990.

Had to buy at that price. I don't think they'll replace my K712 but having had the X1, not having to use an amp (or little benefit) will make certain things easier.

I had the DT990 Premium, I loved those but the harsh treble may put some people off.

Reports suggest the X2's are a bit on the bright side. With some sources I can confirm. Really depends on what you listen to.

These are excellent headphones.heat

From what i've read these are very good headphones but read the reviews and you'll see that some people are having issues since a new manufacturer started making them

That was a while back. The pads aren't glued anymore. But there could be still see imbalance and the whitering issue.

that was my original plan, i even asked amazon what the return postage would be and they said it would be free
HIFIMANS are still at £240 though and i'll need the better pads (£29) so if i prefered the HIFIMANS and sent the philips back i would have to pay £269

Thanks, right in my price range.

The 400S? The 400i's come in and out of stock at £180

Reading up on headphones tonight and it's a minefield. Could someone please advise on best headphones that I would mainly be using whilst at home, ranging from audio books to an eclectic taste in music in this price range....? Sennheiser Momentum 2.0i On-Ear Headphones was where I was moving towards before coming across this post. Much help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

Why not these Philips?

Mine arrived this morning, impressed so far. No manufacturing defects or imbalance that I can discern.
