Good kettle and very quiet.

Currys price £27.99 but they kindly price matched Asda's £18 for me.

Have one of these for a while. Quick boiling, nice and light and quiet too!

Bought one yesterday. Does the job. Surprisingly small for a 1.7l kettle.

HOT

very good kettle lightweight too, dont loo as flash as the metal ones, but they are heavy and noisey

Best kettle I've used for a long time-

Been this price in store for a while, nice price.

This is a bad kettle with a stupid lip in the bot ,which u have 2 shake for an extra 8 secs to get all the h20 out.We R busy & cannot afforfd this over a decade ;actually the only product that i have found useful is there shavers .Everything else branded philips ;steer well clear Review by 1 of the few negatives that u get at amazon & the like ;among all the positive others & you always wonder why

The kettle has a design flaw. It starts to leak into the electrics in the base and this is extremely dangerous. Our faulty consumer unit nearly burnt our house down when it failed to trip the circuit this kettle was on. The electrician condemned it and confirmed it started the process that led to our consumer unit catching fire. Yes, it was the fault of the consumer unit, but it was also the fault of a flawed kettle. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon. Most are from people who have just bought the kettle and think it is great, but there are plenty from people like me, months after purchase, pointing out the inherent design flaw.

Yes, it is a good price, but the safety of your home and family is worth more than a few quid.

IINVMM, it's only an "eco" kettle because it's got a marking for "1 cup" on the little window on the side to help us all not boil too much water when making a single brew. That's...it. Marketing spin by a big brand taking us all for fools. Other than that it's a 3000W device like any similar fast boil kettle.

Had this kettle for a few months now with no issues outlined above.

Well, good for you. However, from Amazon:

'I bought this kettle after much research and i've been very happy with it for the two years i've used it. it's nice and quiet and although like all kettle uses a lot of electricity I think it is, as it's name claims, one of the more energy efficient kettles. unfortunately it's now started to leak somewhere at the bottom of the kettle. i think a kettle should last longer than a couple of years! perhaps i've just been unlucky and had this not happened i would have happily recommended it but i think i'll look elsewhere for a replacement'

or

'Initially this kettle was awesome, it boils fast and the boiled water didn't have any nasty smell ..but after exactly a year, it started to leak...and it seems like i am not the only one here...many people are having the same problem, like after a few months of use..well, i would consider myself lucky then for having the leakage after a year...poor manufacturing...philips really needs to improve in this aspect!!'

or

'I bought this kettle very recently and I am very dissapointed because each time it is used I have to mop up water from around the base. The kettle produces alot of condensation as it boils and so the worktop is always wet around the kettle base.
I will be buying a different make/model in the very near future as this is terrible....

You have been warned!!!!'

or

'To be fair, I should say its the best kettle we have used till the day it shut down. Ours always had a small amount of water leaking to the base and the manual said this would happen. However it started seriously leaking and shutting off after about 15 months. Removed the base and noticed the electric contacts were corroding, so obviously the water must have leaked in for some time. Now looking for another, shame as it was a great when it worked.'

or

'Was great to start with, but after only 8 months it has started leaking. I expect a kettle to last longer than this. We bought a different cheap kettle at work for £6 and that's been going for over 2 years. Not impressed.'

or

'To think that I bought this kettle to replace a cheap Tesco model - not so attractive to look at but did the job. I've had this Philips kettle for seven months and already it's starting to leak, just like the reviewer ' Joey' describes. A moat of water accumulates in the base unit, hardly safe. I'm sending it straight back to the manufacturer. Do not buy this kettle !!'

or

'Good idea but cup measurements inaccurate for mugs but thats the same for most kettles so no great hardship. The reason it was sent back is because it took too long to switch off and the heat from the steam caused the lid to warp up at the spout and then condensed around the rim and run down the outside when pouring and so either landed on the work surface or more worryingly into the base and water/electrics is not a good mixture and so it was returned for a refund.'

or

'I bought this in June and it started leaking just over a year later, I called amazon and was told that both their warranty and the manufacturer's warranty has expired! So I just have to bin it! What a waste of money'

or

'This is a very efficient kettle although the top opening is rather small for filling.

I don't think it has longevity built in, as my one now leaks from the rear switch after only 17 months, rather dangerous place for water to be emerging as it fills the electrical stand. Now searching for a new kettle!

However, one can probably expect to be looking for a new electric kettle every year these days, as they all seem to only last that long!'

or

'I used to have a very basic Philips kettle in the shape of a rooster which lasted 10(!!) years. Unfortunately last year it finally broke and we did some research for another Philips kettle. We bought this one since I liked the fact that you can boil only 1 cup if needs be. However, we experienced the same problem as Joey and we have been finding water under the kettle for a while now. Initially I thought I spilled it myself, but now we know it's a leak in the kettle. I'm very disappointed that this kettle only lasted about a year after our great experience with the previous one!'

or

'Bought this kettle 2nd of July 2009, dispatched 3rd probably arrived 6th or 7th of July using Super Saver delivery. Worked perfect for the first year, unfortunately a few days ago my wife & I notice a trace of water on worktop under the kettle base. Initial thoughts were that it could be steam turning to water when cooled, this is not the case. After further examination it looks like there is a drip which appears after boiling, its not a lot but could get worse. Contacted Amazon who say, seeing as the warranty has expired by a few days, there is nothing they can do. Looking at other reviews I may have had a bad one, however if you have one of these kettles & notice traces of water under your base be warned you may have a similar problem. I'm off to buy another kettle elsewhere.'

or

'It worked fine for just over a year, but has now started leaking. I see several others are reporting the same problem. Since the water leaks into the place where the electrics are, I think this is a serious failure.'

This is only a selection.

My Amazon review is the second one on that kettle page, "Best Kettle Ever". I've now had mine two years and three months and it works brilliantly. Never an issue with it.

Eco my ****

just what i need as i sleep with my head right next to the kettle
so now i wont get woken up when anyone in my one bedroom flat where i live on my own
puts the kettle on
my previous kettle made so much noise
it was very inconsiderate
especially late at night

Musical - think you're right to speak out, if you have had an issue - but your list of 1 star reviews is only one side of the story - and not the majority view

To try and give a more measured response

Of the 256 reviews on Amazon
(see amazon.co.uk/pro…msg?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0)

205 - 4 (59) & 5 (146) star

51 - 1 (21), 2 (14), 3 (16) star

So roughly a quarter of people had some sort of issue - the other three quarters are happy.

I have had mine for just over a year and I fall within the majority, who haven't had an issue.

I bought mine off amazon as they have a great returns policy - not sure if Asda is as good but voted hot as this is a good deal.

I think 50 reviews complaining mostly about the same dangerous fault is pretty damning.

Not very eco if it needs replacing so quickly!

more EEEEKO than eco

I looked out of interest and can't find it .....please post this Amazon link you mention so that others can benefit.

My kettle's leaking spot is between the transparent plastic (with volume marks) and the metal.
There should be a class lawsuit against this defective product. Shame on you Philips
