In the olden days with analogue signals, it was better to buy expensive cables, with digital signals it is only 0's and 1's being transmitted.

"Different HDMI cables do not affect the quality of the picture. FACT. Reviews stating that cables produce a 'more natural image' or 'better colours' are complete rubbish"

The only thing that might affect quality, is if you want longer cables.

Banned

here we all go again.

No difference at all between free/cheap hdmi cables and expensive qeds (apart from the appearance).

Even over distance I cant see the difference, longest HDMI I have used that was a cheapo was about 15m, and comparing it to a 15m (£200) QED - No difference.

Do not waste your money on expensive Digital cables.

Just look at all the other threads about cables! Yes you're right but to avoid misunderstanding and flames you do have to state that of course below a certain quality you will get bit errors so a damp piece of string will not do. The point is that the errors are likely to be obvious, so if your cheap cable gives a picture that looks fine, it will be fine.

I paid £3 for the slx last week in my local asda....

While agree about the cables transmitting nothing but ones and zeros, surely there is a little bit of quality improvement if the both the plug ends are well manufactured and have gold connectors?

No. Either it gets there, or it doesn't. If it gets there, you get a perfect picture. If it doesn't, you get nothing or something unwatchable.

Same with any computer cable. Or your wireless connection.

I do notice however that other devices can pick up interference for example Singstar mics on the PS3 creates terrible hissing when the cheap Sky HDMI cable is plugged in - when I removed and swapped it for a better cable the noise disappeared. So you are correct the actual picture quality doesn't improve but there are problems with cheap cables giving off some kind of interference - I'm not technical enough to know how this happens but i know for a fact it does. Just my twopenny worth.

i have jus rang the altrincham one and they dont stock it apparantly so dont waste your time tripping down there
