This any good

I got this last month when Costco had it on offer, I love it. It's my first soundbar so I don't have anything similar to compare it against but it's been a massive improvement over my TVs speakers (which aren't terrible). From the reviews I read prior to buying it the negative ones were mainly about the lack of settings (there's 3), being too bassy, and subwoofer connectivity issues, however I use it on the max bass setting and think that sounds just right for both TV (HDMI ARC) and music (via chromecast audio in aux), and I've had no connectivity issues at all, so overall I'm please with it, also it looks great colour and shape wise
No brainer for that price .Think I will match this with my ambilight and sell my Sony 2:1 blueray system .
If it's no good you have a 100% no quibble free return .
At almost a 3rd of the price of my Sonos beam it will be good to see the match
Just checked with local store and it's online only buy not available in store if people were thinking of going direct to store
Anyone know if this has any compatibility issues with a Sony kd55xf9005? Looking for a fair priced soundbar to compliment the TV.

I'll second that, its not bad but far from perfect either. Biggest issue I found that once you connect this to your philips tv audio equaliser options fade out on tv so you rely on soundbar EQ. As with this soundbar you only have 3 EQ settings which might be still too bassy so I just turn sub off from socket! Also I was a little disappointed since philips can't even make their own products work together properly - if you not been watching anything on tv for like few minutes soundbar goes to sleep mode and does not recover when you switch some content to watch! So keep soundbar remote handy, bit dumb as easylink and CEC are enabled on tv... The only downside I guess its fairly old now as tv's now emerge with Atmos support.
Been looking at this soundbar for a couple of weeks, reviews seem pretty good. The price has really dropped over the last month. They were originally going for about £240, so had to bite at this price. Will go perfect with my 65 inch Ambilight I got recently off uk deals.

there should be no connectivity issues with a tv via optical or hdmi arc.

*then i remember my old philips bar - if i use optical from the tv to the soundbar - the ps4 turns on when the soundbar is turned on!
also - my lg has an issue with hdmi arc - it wont always send the audio signal - its a tv fault.

my older philips sounds amazing (for the price) - this should be better, however my old one has issues with losing the sub connection very often, and reviews imply this still has the same fault.

Are you using HDMI ARC? I'm guessing so but I'm not experiencing the soundbar sleeping when the TV is on, it turns on and off with my LG TV via the TV remote, the only time I need to use the soundbar remote is to turn it off when I want to use the TVs internal speakers for watching TY when the kids are in bed.

I find EQ 3 (3 LEDs) turns the bass super low, but yeah I see what you mean, there's no option to turn it off, not an issue for me as I the love bass
This or the Yamaha YAS-108 that’s on offer at Costco?

LG know their job as been developing audio and video equipment for years, where philips just tries to show off with something they have no clue about Yes hdmi arc, tried few cables but result same. Tv will power on soundbar fine and will work fine if you start watching something straight away. But if as example you been browsing apps for too long with no sound, soundbar just goes to sleep and does not recover. Also another stupid thing with this philips tv is that when you have audio system connected then you do not get OSD messages for volume! TV controls soundbar volume but you have no clue what level you are.
I love bass too and that was reason I wanted something with sub, but with little kids once evening comes bass off
Philips tv speakers are pants compared even to some budget hisense tv's. Don't see point even sticking atmos support to them as you hardly notice any difference

Depends what you want? Beauty of philips is that you can stick sub anywhere and have better bass experience. Not sure with 300W but it is quite loud. Maybe I am old fashioned but tiny subs inbuilt in soundbars just yet not there in delivering deep bass
I had. Samsung tv and bought I good bar to go with it by Samsung too. It would turn on when the tv did and play whichever source tv was on. Now I have a Phillips tv with the Samsung sound bar and it hardly gets used as I have to turn it on, select the source and mute the tv. Would this work smarter with the Philips tv?

as per my post above if hassle free then answer is NO Also if you on about philips tv with atmos support then probably worth spending on something that does support atmos. Still find it weird that philips tv is not controlling samsung soundbar you have, you sure all CEC etc are switched on in settings?
Hopefully they've fixed the problems my Phillips had / has. The soundbar turns off after 15 minutes of silence,. The glue that they coat the internals with carbonised over time causing constant bad crackling. Cost just over £100 to fix. Not long after the HDMI input (not the ARC socket) has no signal for 30 minutes after first switching on and when it does come on has no sound for a while and green flickering on screen and the picture cutting out for a few minutes when it does come on. Also, the wireless sub drops out constantly.

But it has to work like that, your transferring the audio to the soundbar to output so the TV has nothing to do with the sound.

On your other issue about the soundbar going to sleep, have you looked for a remote control command to disable the feature?

Do you use a Harmony remote?

Have you tried turning off CEC features on the telly, ie. Auto off (may even be a sleep option).

Although CEC features are meant to be standard theyre not quite, conflicts do occur but are usually easily solved (ie. If your sky box, firestick, soundbar are all connected by CEC you can disable CEC features so only one source controls On / Off commands).

I would say it depends, if you have pass-through mode then maybe I would agree. But if you have just pcm stereo then it means tv does all sound processing so adjustments should be available. As for CEC no its only tv and soundbar both philips. There is nothing there settings wise as went over all manuals and settings. Simple fact that philips programmed soundbar to go to sleep after x inactivity and tv is not keeping it live over hdmi. on/off volume controls work fine.

Thats a kinda silly thing to do, oh well, shame they didnt leave a button combination in there to switch it off/on.

Just as a last option, have you looked into the hidden installer menu on the telly to see if theres anything there? Youtube will help you into it if your new to that area!
Any pointers on how to fix the connection problem? I’m using on optical cable - the LeD power light on the sound bar is on, but there’s no audio. I’ve tried taking the mains out, removing the optical cable - but nothing works.. desperately looking for a fix!
