What the life like on them ?

Not much unless you leave your window open at night, then you might get a moth or two.

I was hugely sceptical for years tbh.

Then I got some.

And do you know what? They're bloody brilliant.

There are cheaper smart lights out there but the Hues are still the fastest to respond and the most hassle free for me.

John Lewis.
Are there things you can do to the bulbs via the bridge that you can't do via Alexa?

John Lewis. I don't think this is taking info account the JL delivery charge it the click and collect fee.

You need the bridge to control the bulbs. Alexa talks to the bridge, not the bulbs

Depends on whether you have the Echo Plus or not with the hub built In.

I have around 40 bulbs (Thanks HUKD!) & my oldest are around 3 years old. Not had any fail yet.
I'd rather get the Yeelight bulbs by Xiaomi as the setup from Philips works out to be pretty expensive. But still, better value now than ever

Well to be honest at this price, the difference isn't much. If I didn't already have yeelights I would get this now.

I know that if you wait for deals you could get the rgb yeelights for slightly less than this and these are just white but other than for novelty when I first got them, mine have always been used for white light.

Plus the yeelights have a big downside that I believe these don't, response time, it takes a second or two for the yeelights to respond as they have no local hub.
Has anyone found a way to ringfence rooms together in groups?

I've set up rooms, but I now want to be able to turn off all the ground floor lights when I'm upstairs, or if I'm downstairs watching TV at night I can turn off all the lights upstairs, with a single instruction.

This seems like an obvious thing to want to do, but Phillips don't have that functionality at present, and IFTTT seems to only allow you to operate one or all lights/rooms.

Hugh, give us FLOORS!

Never mind, I've worked it out. You can create rooms in Google Home, which is seperate from the Hue app rooms.
Is Phillips better than hive? Not sure which one to choose
Great deal. The price of the bulbs alone is way more than this.
Tried many different types of smart bulbs and get on with the Hue ones better than most.
The only hassle (and it's the same for all smart bulbs) is when you have people over and they go for the light switch.

I'll second that on people using the light switch.

First thing i check now but there have been plenty of times in the past when I was basically shouting at Alexa until I realised someone had turned the light off by the switch.

Yeah , and they must price fix as every store has increased to this, I have just bought 4 X e27 and 2 X b22 bulbs from Amazon for £48. which is a good price, but am not keen on paying £45 for the bridge, I will have to get one but will wait a day or two for a decent starter pack to turn up
