I love hue but I'm not convinced about these, can anyone shed any light how these are better than buying the hue bulbs and non hue fitting?

I've had a few HUE lights, I think 'some' look quite cool and the quality is there.

So, no benefit other than looks/style then?

I think this is aimed more towards those who are looking at replacing their light (maybe moving to spots etc). There is little point otherwise, as you say you may as well just purchase a hue bulb.

I bought the triple one in black and fitted it the other weekend. To be fair, the overall feel of quality wasn't as high as I expected as in there is a bit of a loose feel when positioning the spots, but to it's credit I will say the spacer template to set the mounting holes was good, and the fact there is a connector on the wires makes installing easier than a some light fittings I have used where you have to some how hold up the fitting whilst connecting to the ceiling wires. Also since it is held up with two sprung loaded brackets, I like the fact taking it down for decorating and disconnecting it will now be tool less. Looks good when installed as well.

So in a long winded answer!, Yes no benefit, but it is a good quality light fitting that once you have subtracted the cost of switch and bulbs isn't that much.
Do I need a Hue Bridge to use these or is the bridge only required for operating when away from the house?

Another question! Is it possible to control 2 units from 1 switch?

Cheers.

Actually no, you don't need a bridge. You are fine to use the supplied remote if you only need local control. I believe up to 10 bulbs can be paired to a single dimmer remote.

For more advanced features (such as controlling away from the house) then yeah you will require a bridge.
