Price drop, matching the Argos deal (which seems to be sold out everywhere!)

That isn't a great price. I bought my last one from Argos for £44 a few months back. Its nearly Black Friday time. I'd hold out until then.

What's the point of these lights?
Are they just ambient lighting, or can they be used as actual 'lights', as in, enough output?

Or are they just 'pretty'?

The Iris puts out about 200 lumens. That's equivalent to something like a 12W old style candescent bulb. You'd need a lot of these to actually light a room.

They're mainly useful for providing splashes of colour on a wall. They can also be useful for bias lighting behind a TV, and for using with some of the 3rd party hue apps to colour match with a screen (which looks pretty cool, but is very gimmicky).

I love my Hue lights but am not really a fan of these bulbs - I think there are much better options with some of the other products for sale. I prefer using a colour bulb in a nice lamp which are brighter and (in my option) look better.

I love mine. Have it paired with a bloom in the office and it provides nice ambient lighting whilst working/gaming. If you choose a nice warm yellow I find it is lights up the room as bright as the main light. But I guess it depends on the size of your room.
