just as tesco and b&q found out hue prices are too high for the average bulb buyer. I doubt ASDA will continue stocking Hue products. Hopefully Ikea's more realistic prices will lead to an overall drop in prices.
I was at the Wigan one today. They were £14 there. I was looking for the £14 dimmer deal. They had none of those.

Do these need the bridge or will they just work on wireless?

Does an Amazon Echo work as a dimmer instead?

Yes you can use voice to dim them
Didn't think special light bulbs were necessary http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view2/2281873/stewie-throwing-up-o.gif

Sorry to chime in but I think it's important to mention that you can only use this bulb with Amazon Echo or Google Home if you have the Philips Hue hub/bridge, it won't work with just the dimmer.

True but it's but obvious if you will read a but about it. Fair point to mention it anyway.

The hue dimmer switch kits were all gone but loads of bulbs left.
If you want a bulb you can use by itself, you need an Xiaomi YeeLight bulb.
You plug the bulb in, install the app on your phone, register with the Yeelight server and tell the bulb your internet password via the App. Then you can turn on, off and dim via your phone (at home or away) or via your Amazon Dot. All you need to buy is the bulb itself.
The Amazon 'Skill' doesn't let you change colour yet but it may in the future.
