I'm only going from what I have read but I believe you can adjust the light sensitivity so it doesn't come on if it is light enough.

I'm hoping to be able to use it in the bathroom so it comes on normally during the day and dimmed at night, unsure if it can do this but I believe it can do what you are after.

Yes the sensor can do exactly this.
What happens if you turn this on with no hub? What colour does it show?

IMO, for the best sync experience, you need to use the Hue Sync software on a Windows PC or a Mac, hooked up to your TV using a HDMI cable (or equivalent high definition display cable). The software can sync audio and what you see on the screen, has modes for video and gaming, and allows you to change the intensity of the light changes.

To control the light strip with your phone, you'll need a Philips Hue Bridge which you'll need to pair the light strip to. These can usually be found cheapest on eBay.

If you connect via a PC you can grab Hue's own software, or there is a new Sync Box in which you connect all the HDMI devices, and then connect the box to the TV.
Alternatively if you have an Android box I've found the 'Hue Stream' app is pretty good (I'm using this on an NVIDIA Shield): reddit.com/r/H…ou/

The only downside to this is that protected content i.e. Netflix doesn't work with this.

I've used it with Kodi on the Shield, and FireTV so it should work with the stick. On the forums people mention memory issues can occur, whilst I've not had this happen on my devices, it could happen on the FireTV stick.

I have added the hue stream app to my firestick and linked the app to my bridge. What do I do next? Just play a film on Kodi and all will work in sync with my hue bulbs or is there more to it than that?

You need to go into the hue app and setup an entertainment zone, the first part of this article shows you how: huehomelighting.com/phi…nt/

Following that go into the hue stream app and set it to use the entertainment area, then hit start stream. Should work fine with on screen content after that.
Looks amazing when you put these under a bed (provided your bed is on wheels of just generally has a gap to allow the light to come through on to the ground and bounce up)

Nothing happens when playing frozen on Kodi. Did everything you said and then linked my Philips hue entertainment room to the hue stream app clicked start stream then went back into Kodi played film and nothing
Still going strong.... For an hour or so
