Can somebody advise , I cant see the point of this versus a light strip so I would love some input

Use a couple of these either side of your tv and set up a scene in hue sync then they will change colour to match anything you watch on a pc. They’re also bringing out a device so that you don’t need a pc.

Also, light strip is stuck on and can’t really be re-positioned without some hassel

This in the other hand is versatile, can move around, repositioned as you like etc

Because of that, can possibly create a better lighting effect due to tilting the light at diff angles etc

How do you set up hue sync and what else is needed

As long as you have a hue bridge and any hue lights just download hues sync on your pc and setup your scene. Then it will sync with whatever you play on pc.

And then hook laptop up to TV?

Yeah you can do it all on a laptop and hook it up to the tv. I’ve only got 3 hue ceiling lights but I tried it out and the effects are quite cool. I was watching Star Wars so the lights were constantly changing colour with the lightsabers and blasters
Can this be used with a LG TV direct to give the same effect as Philips ambilight tv's without using a PC?

You’ll need to use a pc and hue sync or in January Philips are releasing a hdmi hub so you won’t need a pc but it’s likely going to cost £200
The reviews look a bit pants on Amazon

If you have an Nvidia Shield (or maybe some other Android TV box?) there’s a free app called Hue Stream which works like Hue Sync. Well worth it if you don’t want to plug your computer into the TV.

It has a few slider controls which take a bit of fiddling and guesswork but you’ll soon get the effect you want.

The only pity is it seems to not ignore the black bars sometimes, but that may just be a setting somewhere that needs tweaking.
