Just so people know the Play Double Packs come with just one power supply unit (PSU) which has three inputs so you can plug three play bars into the one PSU. The Extension Kit has one Play Bar and no PSU. Not a problem unless you want to put the play bars in separate rooms or a long way from each other.

BTW Phillips don’t sell separate PSU’s separately for these.

Was thinking of having these around my TV unit for synchronisation with my TV and PS4. Will these do the job or do I need to buy any additional Philips hue products. I already have the hub

Don't think they'll sync with the on screen colours like the ambilight effect yet. There's an additional product (hdmi sync unit) being released in the new year to bring that but it's around £200 or so.
You can control the colour and lights using the app or voice control system though if you have the bridge

Gutted. Yes I'd need the hdmi sync unit for the effect I'm looking for. What about registration with razer? Will that not do anything similar?

I want to do this effect while watching films or playing PS4

As much as I love the Philips hue the price you have to pay for these products is astronomical
If it was £100, I’d have likely bought it with this set of play lights. It’s a gimmick and one I’d been looking forward to for ages but can justify at this cost

If you are playing stuff from a laptop directly to the TV using HDMI, there is a free Philips app that does it. I've used the Windows version and works pretty well, there's also a Mac OS one which I've not tried. If you use Kodi, there's a Hue plug in for it that does the same kind of thing. I have an Android TV and run Kodi so gave it a try - it kind of works some of the time, but it seemed very buggy and the dev who was writing it just gave up supporting it so I gave up using it.

The HDMI sync box looks good, but it is massively overpriced atm and, from the reviews I've read, seems to have issues that need fixing in the firmware. I'm interested in one, but I think I'll wait till the price starts to come down and they iron out the problems.

Yea I think I'm going to wait for the hdmi box price to drop also. I do use Kodi for my films with my RD account but from what you just said it doesn't sound to reliable
In the same boat as other on the HDMI box, want one, but damn £300 is a joke... Just hang fire, once it ends up on Amazon, I will be ready to get it half price using some jiggery pokery.

I was looking at something like this and thought the hdmi box was way too expensive. I found the above on Amazon. It's got decent reviews and a lot cheaper.

Just Googled it and it seems that someone has picked up the project and done a Kodi V18 version....

github.com/lor…ght

Might as well give it a try again.

These are the general instructions for setting up I used, just use the software in the above link rather than the GitHub one they give as it links back to the older branch of the code that was for V16 and V17

Really appreciate this. If I need three for a large room would you suggest buying three separate with dedicated PSUs?
Picked up some of these a couple of days ago, but I went with the 2 x play bar and 1 x light strip.

I bought some velcro from Amazon and have stuck them on the back of my monitor, and sync them with the app. Really cool effect
Gutted seeing this, after 3 today.
These actually do work with Ambilght TVs are normal Hue lamps. Ive stuck mine at the back of my telly and it really boosts the ambilight effect by over 1,000 lumens. I think theyre incredible if expensive.
