This is my first deal, so hope everything is correct.

I'm in the process of buying smart home bits for our new house, and noticed the dimmer kits have been reduced by a few quid on Amazon, compared to the previous deal.

I think it's due to the release of the newer Bluetooth bulbs.

If you need a dimmer or bulb it seems like a great deal.

Why are most of these Hue type lights E27? Where are the bayonet fitting versions? Is there a reason that screw fits work better with smart hubs?

I'm surprised you had issues. I bought number of these kits and never had problems adding them in. Bulb - just add by a serial number, and with a dimmer - just put it in pairing mode.

Good price nice find and thanks for sharing. I think £9 for a Philips hue smart bulb and £9 for the hue smart dimmer is not bad for a Philips hue branded item. Philips Hue is too expensive normally but they seem to be content with their pricing and people buy it over cheaper alternatives for various reasons

E27 is just more widespread (worldwide) , plus this is what you get from IKEA.

No problems adding any of the bulbs or dimmers from me, In fact a doddle and never had a problem with any of the bulbs etc I have installed. I may go for another, can anyone recommend a cover for existing light switch that allows these dimmers to be mounted over the top of existing single switch.
Thanks @Tonyator , this is a bargain of a deal. Great first post!

If someone's looking to get into Hue, then this probably isn't quite the best place to start. Especially with the new Bluetooth bulbs coming out.

But for those of us who already have Hue and want to add more, this is a steal.

I've added several of these, to different houses and setups, and work great. Multiple presses to the power-on button on the remote cycle through scenes.

Just the one shade of white on this one. Hue bulbs labelled "white ambience" let you adjust the warmth of white light.
Wow, bargin
1 hour after ordering 3 of these at £20.99! Wish me luck with Amazon CS 🙈

People just buy it when it's on offer. Like 3 colour lights + hub for 50 quid or something

You can get bayonet adapters that fit into the bulbs Edison base, I have one but got it along with the hub I bought second hand.

Just to add, I had no trouble adding the dimmer switch or bulb to my hue hub, I previously purchased the AO offer - 3 colour bulbs , hub, dimmer switch and echo dot - that was a scorching deal but this is also a decent price.

No difference other than cost, E27 is cheaper and more common due to bulk production as very few countries use bayonet and even then it's not exclusive. Screws are getting more common in the UK as well.
Same price as dimmers if only I could get a couple of dimmers on their own for cheaper

Bluetooth is a way off yet, I think. Not aware of any spots that are Bluetooth etc. Only the bigger bulbs.
I wonder if anyone can answer my qustion, I have a hue light bulb in my bathroom that's operated with the hue motion sensor. However I still need to turn the bathroom extractor fan manually. So my question, is it possible to wire the fan to this light switch ?

I’ve got HIVE and I understand that you can now control hue products from the hive app but does anyone know if you still need the hue bridge or if the HIVE hub will work with hue products without the need for the hue bridge?
They must have made millions of E27.... if it’s in a nice shade you can easily purchase a bayonet adapter.

Depends on your technical skills. For ease you'd probably be better off with Samsung Smart Things.
If you want something cheaper but with greater flexibility, I've started using Home Assistant with a raspberry pi with great success.
home-assistant.io
You can combine multiple systems in to one and would allow you to add accessories to control you'd extractor. It really depends on the effort your wishing to invest because if you have the patience and the skill set the amount of things home assistant enables you to do is incredible.

Yeah, same. I'm after half a dozen of the dimmers. Was thinking about buying and then trying to shift the bulbs for a fiver each or something...But wonder if it's better just to wait for the next 3 for 2 offer to come around...
can the dimmer control Xiaomi yeelight bulbs (aka connect them to the Hue bridge)?

I've ended up with a pair of E27 bulbs from these duo deals. Managed to reassign one to an IKEA floor lamp but had much less luck with ceilings. Unless you've got some kind of fancy fitting that takes a single E27, that won't look out of place with a Hue bulb, you're stuck with those awful converters that add length. There don't seem to be many sellers of a bog standard E27 drop pendant even on eBay.

Still, for an £18 bundle the plain white ones are great in table lamps and such where E27 is more common , especially if you reconfigure the dimmer using something like IConnectHue which is well worth the tenner or so it costs.

No because this isn't a light switch. It doesn't have any connections whatsoever. It's essentially a battery powered remote control with a wall 'dock' for convenience.

Thank you for your answer. Back to trying to come up with a different way (not too expensive)
I looked at this as a good deal then realised it will only do Philips bulbs so your stuck using them, I’ve had alternate WiFi multi coloured bulbs I bought at the same time as some expensive White Philips bulbs for well over a year now, all working great via Alexa, so I’m not sure if it’s just a marketing ploy to ensure your stuck with using only Philips bulbs if you rely on this dimmer for all your bulbs.

If you use HomeKit (and I’m assuming alexa too) you can programme the remote to control whatever smart device you want. In homekit the dimmer appears as 4 programmable buttons.

Cool thanks for the update, I presumed it was only via the Philips hub, I do have a combo of Philips controlled by a hub and cheaper WiFi multicolour bulbs all work great via Alexa. Bit late to add HomeKit..
