Does this require a plug socket or can it be wired into the normal light wiring? It seems unclear from the description and the instruction manual I found online.

Normal light socket wiring, and the dimmer switch is battery powered so it can go anywhere. I have mine mounted in covers that fit over the existing light switches

Search Amazon for Samotech light switch cover for Philips Hue. Ignore the appalling rendering and lack of picture. They look good, and the dimmer switch and mounting plate covers most of it
