Was looking to replace an old IKEA light on a stairway and wanted a Philips Hue. Found this excellent light, which while designed for a bathroom , work brilliantly for me where I wanted it. It's £75 on Amazon, but I was surprised to find it for £45.99 at John Lewis.

You get the Light fitting itself with a built in White Ambience Hue LED bulb, *and* you get a Philips remote for it. There's loads of space inside the fitting for wiring, so no cramped space forcing wires into tiny gaps.

Here's the blurb from the John Lewis website..

Update your bathroom lighting with the Philips Hue White Ambiance

Adore single spotlight. Designed with an integrated LED, this versatile

piece offers a host of lighting solutions that can help you to energise,

concentrate, read and relax.

Philips Hue Light control

Structure your lighting ambience around your day. Cool, bright-white

daylight is the optimum way to start the day, helping to energise your

body and mind, while a soft glow of white light is ideal for unwinding

and relaxing in the evening.

IP44 rated

Designed especially for bathrooms and humid environments, this light is

IP44 rated and protected against splashing water. It has been rigorously

tested to ensure its water resistance.

Easy, wireless control

Supplied with a ready-to-use dimmer switch for Philips Hue, it's easy

brighten and dim your lights to suit your mood. No wiring required, it

can be operated as a remote control or placed as a light switch against

the wall.

Worth Knowing

To create a more innovative look, this light has been designed to

incorporate the LEDs within it. These LEDs have a lifespan of up to

15,000 hours. LEDs use around 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs.

If it didn't come with the dimmer this would be horrendous value because a spot of this type is the region of £10 and a white ambiance GU10 about £24 providing the option to upgrade to a colour bulb etc in future if you wanted to.
Good price for a complete unit with a remote.
Agreed, the remote makes the deal.. Just put it up today and configured it.. Really pleased with it.

Are you saying that there are cheaper ways without the dimmer? I have switches because eof the recent amazon deal but am interested in bathroom lights.
You can put Hue GU10 bulbs into any fitting and it becomes ‘smart’.

Strictly speaking, for bathroom use, GU10 bulbs are not suitable because they won't be waterproof hence why Hue have released this GU10 like sealed spot. You won't get anything cheaper than £45 but you could go cheaper if you don't mind breaching building regs.

Nonsense. You can get IP65 rated down lighters and fit Hue GU10 bulbs. I have 7 in my bathroom
Does anyone know if this is double insulated (does not need an earth)
I need to replace a bathroom light that had a pull cord so this could be just the thing but the wire is only L&N without earth
Thanks

It only has L and N. I rolled up the Earth from the wall inside the unit and taped it up.

Downlighters are different to spots because they can sealed unlike a spot which is exposed. The bulb inside is not IP44+ rated so not compliant for a bathroom unless housed in a sealed unit.
