Maplin are running a flash sale on these, looks to be a good price. On Camelcamelcamel it appears to be the lowest ever price. Also available from their Amazon store for the same price. E14 size also available in white ambiance or white and colour ambiance.

Been waiting for a cheap deal on an ambiance bulb after making the mistake of buying a couple of white ones. Good price, thanks!
Is there an easy way to tell what gen these are?

Does it matter on the white ones? Gen3 was richer colours for the coloured bulbs
Good price. Heat given. Amazon price match too.

IIRC Gen 3 also increased the life span not sure if the was a drop in power consumption. This was for the coloured ones, don't do non-coloured ones.
I’ve been looking at these for some time, but are they any good at replacing the main lights as it says it’s equivalent to 40 watt output

I think it’s more like a 60w lightbulb
Would it light a room adequately without any other lighting / lamps

I’d prefer more lumens or other lamps in the room personally. Why not stick a 60watt bulb in your ceiling light when you get a chance and see what that looks like in your environment? Also, do you already have a Philips Hue system or Samsung Smartthings or similar or are you starting from scratch?

From scratch, but been undecided when to start and whether to go with Hue or LIFX
