Great price. Just to note this is Gen2 as opposed to “richer colours” Gen3

Great price but not very much stock. I live in derby and the closest store is Leeds and that has 2 bulbs. So not a great deal unless your close

Oos? Can't see a buy button. Would have liked some gu10s too

Are these the old first generation bulbs that can’t do green

Oos I guess

If you're in no particular rush, these things are a staple of Amazon's Black Friday, seemingly showing up every year.

Also: Sonoff smart switches (T1) are starting at a tenner for single gang and are properly smart - as you don't need to leave a switch on for the bulb to be smart.

do Sonoff switches need a hub?

And how do they fix to the socket or do you need a new back box?

sonoff touch switches replaces the front cover, using live and neutral wire, maybe earth

What's the benefit of these over Yeelight?

No they don't!

Replacement cover as mentioned above shouldn't need a new back box unless yours is slim, but you need live and neutral connections - older houses may have only live with neutral at the light itself.

I kinda want something -like- the Sonoff switches, but which use RF rather than WiFi... Maybe just a lightwave RF or equivalent relay that I can add-on.

That way I can replace the switches in the house without having 50 things using the wifi (and in the case of the super-cheap Smart Home devices, dialling home to China with no encryption, leaving the device essentially open)

From my understanding these need to be connected to the internet to work, which involves going back to a server in China, if that server/service is turned off these will cease to work. The Hue lights have a hub so will work if the internet is down and don't rely on a server in China to work.

I have not tried Yeelight, but I can;t imagine the functionalilty and app support is anything like the Hue lights I have.

OOS

I have read on here the Yeelight switches your router to China if it's turned off and then back on?

Also prefer all my lights to run from one app, not sure if yeelight can be mixed with hue?

It's Singapore, China server is only for Chinese. And the bulbs have a LAN function as well. Once you connect the lights to Google or Alexa you can group them as you want by room. The app is very good though, it gives some extra functionality like the lights slowing darkening over 15 minutes or the reverse in the morning.

There's no buy button on this?
Weird.

“Properly smart” they must be to change the colour and brightness of your average non-dimmable white LED bulb.

Not sure what you mean, but smart bulbs need switched to be on all the time, in order to be controlled wirelessly.

Smart switches, do not, and retain general functionality too.

So unless you're in a situation where you need different Kelvin levels, smart bulbs have an inherent drawback in my opinion, as someone can only operate said bulb with an app or voice. Hardly a killer, but annoying if someone accidentally hits a switch not knowing any better.

Both smart bulbs and switches can dim, if the bulb supports of course.

The commands are still going external all the time, they will also not function offline.

One of my Hue lights developed a fault recently, I spoke to Hue and they sent me a label to return for repair. I can't imagine the same customer service would be present for Yeelight.
