You want the Philips Hue white ambiance starter kit. This is probably the most practical starter anyway as it also comes with a dimmer which is essential in most homes. Usual price is £99, but can be had for £75 if patient.

I can't answer your question, I am afraid.
BTW you can ask the same about all the topics at HotUKdeals.

So hope you don't think I was being rude ... voted hot as I am tempted but not sure I can justify £50 for remotely switching on lights when I am on holiday in Sydney

I don't think you're rude. I'm asking the same questions myself, but I keep ordering such 'smart' gadgets. If someone can give me good answers, I may use them to justify all those orders to my wife ;-)

Buy it because you can ;). No seriously you might want to start a smart light ecosystem without having to fork out the coloured starter kit as it is almost 3 times this price. If you want to test smart lights with start with this kit as you need the bridge or use the cheaper LIFX bulbs as these don't require anything else apart from your existing home router and phone with a dedicated app.
For me, and having both systems I have my whole house with smart bulbs.
I like the idea of waking up and having already lights ON but dimmed enough to not wake me up. These then gradually gain more intensity whilst I'm preparing myself. This way I wake up without having to be bombarded with an amount of light that I cannot cope with when half a sleep.
As I move around the house the lights have all come on a few minutes before and we also all leave the house without having to worry about switching off lights. These will eventually all be turned off minutes after we have left. Before I had this system it was frustrating to sometimes see that some lights we left ON during the whole day. This is just a small scenario of what one can do with these things. Go on the IFTTT website and you can check what else can be done with smart lights.

BTW this post should be expired. It shows the same product from the same shop as someone posted 2 weeks ago. BT does not have these in stock and who knows if they will honour their promise that they will have them in January. I imagine that no one else has got these kits because Philips might be releasing version 3 or even get rid of this type of kit completely? I imagine that BT will one of these days send people waiting an email with the message that they had to cancel the orders due to lack of supply. Just a guess.

Assume these are v2 bulbs and a v2 hub? Surely (if they deliver) this is quite a good price then as the v2 bridge itself is £45-£50 generally. Personally not sure these will ever be in stock and shipped.

Screw type? Don't most British homes (this is a UK website isn't it) have B22 bayonet fittings ?
Also why is edison screw cheaper dammit. It's just a screw. It can't really add that much to change it to a bayonet.

The amazon price for these things is shocking....

You can find adaptors that convert an Edison screw to a Bayonet fitting; they cost around a £1.00 usually.

Bt shop are a joke. Ordered this over a month ago and no sign of it. Poor communication. Not even an email to advise of delay. Will cancel and be sure never to use again. BT stuffed me for this Christmas present.

Got an email today. They are now shipping these out.

If anybody's interested in a cheaper alternative, it's worth looking up Milight/EasyBulb/LimitlessLED (it's the same product, just under different names).

They lack some of the flashier features that the Hue bulbs have and the app is much uglier. But they're much cheaper and apparently the colours and brightness are often just as good or even better.

Bayonet lamps are very much in the minority in Europe. Economy of scale means screw lamps are usually cheaper. Light fittings are increasingly of European standard, ie edison screw.

Works with Alexa?

What else can add to it (IE smart plugs) or is it just for lights?

Currently using TP Link Plugs and Hive.

I bought a pair of those at Amazon for £1.29 last week and they are doing the job.

Just ordered being delivered Tuesday!! Thanks for the deal.

Will this improve my love life? I'm finding having to get up to adjust the dimmer switch a real passion killer.

Missed this last time so will have to get them now! Have the old bridge and really want the v2 so I can say "siri, turn the lights off"
