Not sure what everyone thinks about this but thought it looked quite handy for those wanting Netflix without spending too much.

if you want to get USA Netflix which is much better than the UK Netflix, make sure you can change the DNS on this box, otherwise you would have to change at your router, which is a pain

not great reviews on amazon.. basically its a lot like the Roku .. limited content providers (so in the uk lovefilm has a much bigger choice than netflix and it only does netflix) and critically like the roku you cannot network share or dlna media on other devices .. also reports poor codec support

.. i guess if you need it just for netflix only and want something cheap @ £35 it might be a goer for you

Cheap price but poor reviews and a superseded model.

Anyone know exactly what this is capable of, i.e. anyone got one? I looked at the Philips site but it doesn't seem crystal clear what it can do.

Just read the tech radar revue actually but thanks anyway, will look now at your Roku link

I know it's not relevent to this deal but can anybody help me with setting up Netflix on a samsung bluray player?I bought a Samsung BD C6500 but canno't see the netflix app in the samsung smart hub/app store,I've tried googling this but can't seem to get a straight answer.I think the player may be set to another country so doesn't list all apps available does anybody know a code or firmware that I could use to set this player up for UK and Netflix.

Hot price for this by the way I looked @ it along with the Roku etc but I think it will struggle to stream some files you have and no ethernet port by the looks of it.

USE THE SAME CODE FOR 40% OFF EVERYTHING ON THE PHILIPS WEB SITE,
LOTS OF BARGAINS TO FIND,,8)

The Roku 2 XS for £99.99 has Ethernet Might be worth £99.99 tbh it has tons of good reviews but does have neutrals

I'll stick with the PC tower & a monitor cable thanks.

Does the info in this Link Help at all?

Get the WDTV Live SMP for £70 notes, better all round (than the Roku IMO).

I agree but it is double the price - most things are better when they cost double.

thanks for that jaysonic handy to have bookmarked but its connected to the wifi fine just no netflix app there to download. It's got to be country settings but theres no function to change the country, just language. Thanks though.

For the money looks great

No xvid/divx?!

Pch still the best, followed by sumvision.

Good price for this, so still hot, but not a good device for all formats.

Android TV Box instead?

Yeah this is clearly limited in what it does, basically if you want a cheap netflix box then it's probably about the cheapest one at the moment, except for that bloke that got a free desktop out the skip behind the pub of course.

I think you're confusing this with the Pirate Bay. UK ISP's don't block the US Netflix at hostname resolution stage, Netflix block your non-US IP address. Changing DNS server is a totally pointless exercise.

To access the US Netflix you need to use a US based proxy or VPN.

It's not pointless, he's referring to this:

http://unblock-us.com/

The service provides the equivalent of a vpn/proxy by using DNS. Their DNS server resolves certain hostnames to their servers, which proxy the requests to netflix or whoever. It's a good alternative to a VPN for devices such as this, Apple TVs etc.

Hows it compare to a Sumvision Cyclone Micro 3 ?

Can it take XBMC then it's a great box

Wow, it's got high speed USB 2.0 - that's so much faster than that old technology USB 3.0

I use unblock-us on my Boxee Box,Xbox and Wii for Netflix.Does exactly whet it says on the tin and worth the money imo until U.K Netflix catches up with the U.S version.

I got an e-mail from Samsung on the same issue and was told only models produced late 2011 & 2012 will support netflix uk as it uses a new type of DRM that the older models can't support.
