Philips OLED 754, 55 inch Smart TV, 4K HDR, 5 Year Warranty - £899 @ Hi-fi Confidential

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

An excellent price here for the Philips OLED 754 Smart TV from Philips, especially as last time it was available at this price it only came with 2 year warranty. This deal includes a 5 Year warranty.

Richer sounds price match may even bring this down to £879 with a 6 Year guarantee.

The TV picture is fantastic and the sound is very good for built-in speakers. But a picture of this quality ideally deserves a dedicated soundbar or surround sound system if you can!

This TV supports the two main HDR movie formats, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. For comparison, Samsung only supports HDR10+ and LG tens to support Dolby Vision. Philips, like Panasonic and Sony, are including both formats so you have whichever format ends up dominating in the future.

If you can stretch to a few hundred more, yes, you will get an OLED that provides a slightly better picture or operating system. But unless you've got them side by side, the majority of people won't even think about that when they get this TV home. The majority of the Jaw-dropping OLED goodness is there to enjoy.

This TV runs Saphi rather than android TV. Some people prefer to avoid Android TV and Saphi covers many of the basics (Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube etc). It's not the fastest interface on the market but is workable. Adding a 4k firestick etc if you decide Saphi isn't for you pretty much completely bypasses the OS. Menus could be a bit better organised but once your picture is set up to your preference you don't really need to delve in too often.

Ambilight is also provided and many genuinely find this improves their TV viewing and some think it a gimmick. You can off Ambilight or turn the settings right down to get the right set up for you.

Pure picture quality they are not in the same league as any OLED.

Great deal.

Just the extra £100 for the LG B9 at this type of money in a 55inch size, imo.

LG has better support for those who do a lot of gaming and a better user interface. The LG of course hasn't got the ambilight and a lot of people seem to think motion is a bit better on Philips sets. But in reality, they are all cracking tvs providing high end viewing!

Thanks @MRL263 you always seem well clued up. That's my take, unless you're a more serious gamer I'd lean this route over the B9 at the moment and pocket the cash saved.
Great tv for the money had it for a month or so now. I paid £969 only downside to this TV is its software really poor response time especially switching source. If your using a firestick etc works great.

Cheers Zool I agree the interface is not as slick as, say, the LG. But as you mention, plugging in a firestick Almost completely overrides that if you find you want something a bit snappier.

Did you enjoy the out of box picture or did you have to do much tweaking to get it how you liked it?
Heat MS 🔥
This is tempting as it is only 400 more than the 55inch 8204 from Curry's with no extended warranty.
And Curry's extended warranty would be an extra 160, meaning for 240 you are upgrading from an ips to an oled

I disagree they are in different league - I have an LG OLed B9 which has an amazing picture , I also have a Samsung Q70 which is in a much brighter room , the Samsung is better suited to the brighter room than the Oled.
the blacks on the LG are better but there isn’t much in it to be honest and despite all the reassurances about burn in I am loathe to plug the Xbox into the Oled. Both are great TVs

I've not had a great deal of time for adjustments yet but yes pretty happy with it so far also really enjoying the ambilight experience. How about yourself?

Ok thanks. Tricky as I really fancy the ambilight set up but I will be getting a PS5 so I don't want something out of date immediately!

Good to hear! I find it a great TV and really enjoyable to watch. I just set the motion processing settings down to low but apart from that not much needed altering. Dolby Vision Bright mode for DV content is brilliant.

Yeah im the same, i really like philips hue now that i have it but even their sync box is a little too expensive and does add some lag.

In the same boat. Unsure to go the extra though. Am I right in thinking, same TV but 804 works on android and 754 doesn't??

804 is obviously brighter and one gen newer P5 processor. Also has the Android TV and more premium remote. So I can understand the reasons why you might consider the jump.

Guess it comes down to how open you are as a person to the extra risk . I had a Panasonic plasma which was solid for over 10 years before giving it away, but if you did buy the 804 and it went in 3 years, how annoyed would you be?

OLED 804 has been £1,099 new before and can see that happening again also.

Cheers MS, appreciate it. Enjoy your barbie
Thanks for the advice...that settles it as in 3 years time I probably would want to replace it anyway. Also never had a LED TV/screen failing on me so I guess they normally last 5+ years anyway...I was just unsure how this would be with oled...but I guess I am to find out.
The 754 has the older processor...impacts bit just OS but also image processing... however the processing on the older gen might be better according to reviews...not sure though if things have been improved with firmware updates since the initial reviews.
Have this tv picture is amazing ambilight is superb just be aware the tv sits very low so a soundbar in front of it will hide a bit of the screen.

Hi, do you have this wall mounted or stand? If on a stand against a wall how effective is the ambilight. Usually wall mount but wife wants it on a tv stand. Would you pick this now ( if you could choose) or go with b9?

I had the Lg B8 before this but wanted Ambilight as i have philips hue all over my house and can connect Ambilight to the Hue in the main room while watching movies it really does add something nice imho...Didnt want to wall mount it i have it in a bay window on a nice tv bench with plain while blinds behind it so the Ambilight looks great. You can always turn off Ambilight if you aint in the mood for it.The tv OS sucks but my firestick 4K takes care of that...
How does ambi light work in corner position?
