Ah, I didn't realise this site is back up! I used to use savastore.com a lot but then they were bought and the site was down for a while. Thanks edi!

Forgive my erm... thickness... but if these are 5.1 speakers and connect by 3.5 jack...

How are they 5.1?!?

I thought all 5.1 speakers had to be connected to optical or 5 sockets!!!

when I use to have a PC it would have a left and right stereo jacks, you plug both in. The subwoofer then acts as the home and has the outputs for the four speakers.

Macs only have one out put so I think a splitter maybe needed do the job but I'm not sure. I'd like to know.

do i need a 5.1 carD?!¬

Yes you do.

EDIT: Well for 5.1 surround sound obviously yes, but not sure whether they would function in stereo mode on a non-5.1 card.

Well it sounds like it interprets the stereo signal into 5.1 so not really a true 5.1 system - but for £37 what do you expect - it will sound better than just the stereo sound from your tv at least.

Looks as though the RMS for this isn't 70W, but 35W

They have more than one jack  (3, in fact - stereo front, stereo rear and a jack for center and sub).

A better sets of specs can be seen here: ciao.co.uk/Phi…213

These speakers will produce genuine 5.1 sound, yes you will need a 5.1 soundcard. For a laptop or just for convenience, a USB soundcard is an easy option (Ebuyer sometimes have one for about £11, but they aren't listing it at the moment).

I ordered these a week ago and the order status still says not sent.

I haven't tried this set personally, but they seem to be below £40 everywhere they're sold, and from the experience I've had with cheap speakers, I'd avoid these. If all you want is something that does 5.1 surround, these will give you the effect, but if you want something that sounds good, you'll need to put a few more hundred aside, unforunately. You're just not going to get something that sounds good when you're paying about a fiver per speaker.
