Was looking for a DAB foe SWMBO and wandered into Argos and checked the catalogue.

Saw a Philips DAB personal radio with 1GB mp3 player for £59.99 and thought OK that will do - checked the stock 8 instock at £24.99 !!!!

Orderec it using the instore quick pay - got it for £24.99

Still showing £59.99 on Argos website but certainly reduced to £24.99 in Argos at Merry Hill in the midlands so maybe the same elsewhere - worth a check

If this can be confirmed in another store then it's a great deal for this item.

Just bought one in Liverpool, Good Spot

Great Spot! Just popped into Cheltenham Branch and indeed £24.99!! :-D

So 3 left there now :santa:

Argos in Brighton have them. Confirmed as £24.99 - 8 left.

Just got one in Bishop's Stortford and there were two more left in stock at the time

Picked up 2 at east kilbride and there are still 2 left, thank you:thumbsup:

The leaflet available through the link elitom gave mentions 'FM stereo' under the Tuner/Reception/Transmission section - so I presume this is just an error. If it did have FM as well I would be down to Argos like a shot.
EDIT : There's one for sale on Ebay which says it has FM too.... there is no mention of it in the manual or on the Argos site... for those who bought one - does it have FM? And what's the quality like on DAB?

Got mine in Leeds. Great reception in Harrogate. 28 stations. Heat added

No FM only DAB and MP3. 2xAAA batteries.

I have one reserved, but it looks like a very old model. I can find very little about it on the net.
Not sure whether I need another 1gb player, but it is a very good price.

Does this have a built-in speaker or does it only work with headphones ?

All documentation is dated 2007.

Only works with headphones.

Great spot. I reserved a Sony DAB for my father in law last night and the price has gone up by £15 so this one will do just fine!

I think the point is that online they show as £59.99 while in store when you put in your reservation number in they appear as £29.99.

You've nothing to lose by reserving one, going to the store and typing in your number. If they appear at the more expensive price then walk away. If cheaper, great.

This reservation relates to the item(s) only, not the price. The item(s) have not been paid for and the price you pay is the price valid in store when the goods are collected. This may result in the price being different,

Not sure what happens if you reserve one first. Maybe check stock rather than reserving one.

All I know is when I put the cat. code into the quick pay machine teh price was £24.99.

Having said that over on MSE there is talk about the Argos DAB radios going up overnight!

EliTom

Thanks for the deal, even if it doesn't come off but fingers crossed.

Ahh, ok, thanks everyone. Just about to go for lunch and will have a go :santa:

It may be a stupid question but why do you need an FM Tuner when you have DAB?

A great deal. The mp3 size isn't that great compared to budget brands, but the DAB makes it great value.

Hot!

I think the two links you've put up are for the newer model, the DA1102, the Argos one looks like DA1100 in the photo, not certain though. Anyone know what the differences are?

It might not have actually gone up instore yet...
Just bought the intempo one to use at work, its showing £30 on the site but it was still £20 instore

Well, i reserved online and instore it was the £24.99. I have an old 1GB Rio MP3 player with FM radio which I have been using for ages..... not anymore!

Love the Phillips unit so far. DAB Radio works well, however when I moved about with the headphones it got a little crackly.... but that'll be because of the DAB reception here I think.

There are 4 sample MP3's on the player and the sound seems really good to me with the supplied Phillips headphones. Just need to plug it into the computer and copy over some music.

Thanks very much elitom, merry christmas! :santa:

Because I like to listen the football commentary of my local football team. Radio Lancashire broadcast 2 matches on 2 different frequencies on FM and sometimes a different one on AM (I think). Their DAB broadcast one of those matches... if I had DAB, AM and FM I would be guaranteed to get the team I want to listen to. In fact very rarely is the DAB broadcast the one that I want and I have to resort to FM broadcast.

Just bought one at Camden branch (10 left in stock) and the model I got is the DA1102.
Back of box says is come with in-ear headphone, usb 2.0 cable and alkaline batteries. Came up as £24.99.

Compatible with Windows 2000, xp (SP2 or higher) and Vista

Can't see any mention of FM radio, but not opened it yet as may be giving as a present, although will probably keep for myself now!

Model DA1102/05

Hope this helps.

Just nipped out at lunch to pick one up from Waterlooville store. Reserved it at £59.99 on-line but just £24.99 in store.

It is DA1102 version. Doesn't do FM but does have USB lead, headphones, 1gb Flash memory (MP3/WMA playback), mono recording, 20 station DAB tuner, batteries, backlit display.

Fantastic find for £25!!!

Just picked mine up, showed as £24.99 on the reservation collection thing.

Definitely DA1102/05 model.

Will see how it goes.

Just got mine too

£24.99 :w00t: excellent for the price, and its the DA1102 model

Cheers OP Heat and Rep added Great Post, Thanks for sharing:thumbsup:

Nice one Elitom, you are a star.

Reserved at £59.99 then collected in store at £24.99 RESULT.

Philips Model DA1102 ... Christmas presents sorted.:santa:

Hi guys,

I'm a little worried as it is powered by AAA batteries... are the batteries charged automatically when you plug it into the pc with usb (if you use rechargable batteries of course). otherwise, won't i be buying batteries ALL the time if it only lasts 10 hours???

i have reserved one anyway, and will probably pick it up after work. just wondered if you have any tips with the battery situation...?

cheers.

Can anyone comment on their experience with the DAB tuner?

I'm apaprently in a very bad signal area, has anyone used it in an area with a strong signal?

Ho ho ho reserved, does anyone know if the mp3 is a simple drop & drag ? Thanks op & merry x mas to all

Not to spoil the fun here but i really dont recommend Philips MP3 players. I had 2 different smilar models to this one. 1 stopped turning on after about 10 uses. Takes ages to load songs onto the player too, the musicmatch software is terrible to use, battery life is only a few hours max charge too.

There is no USB charging, buy some cheap rechargable batteries and a charger.
10 hours is not a bad amount of battery life.

Transfer is just drag and drop, though Windows Media Player tried to do some synching thing which might work as well.

Am quite pleased with the sound quality. There's an equaliser as well, and various shuffle/repeat functions. Bundled headphones are OK too.
Supports ID3 tags, gives various album and artist playback options, as well as using playlists.

Doesn't have MusicMatch software, transfer is USB 2.0 so is reasonably fast.

Reserved mine. Pick it up later. The good think about this is that you can hook it up to any sound system via AUX.

Got a Portable Dab radio a few months back. No MP3 playback and was more than twice the price. Voted hot.
