can any one tell me how this works do i pay a subscription or just by a phone and off I go ? thanks:)

Just be clear that this is per Philips a SKYPE only VoIP phone and NOT a generic VoIP phone using industry standards (eg SIP) and so should ONLY be usable with Skype service at whatever price/plans the monopolist supplier Skype are offering.

eg see
skype.com/int…es/

Personally I'd prefer the opportunity to use SIP standard and the multiplicity of providers on that.

So what?many people around the world using skype,If you need generic voip, buy more expensive one.The point of this phone is to make free skype-2-skype calls in most of cases.

BECAUSE the subject of the Hot Deal says "VoIP phone", not Skype Phone. I didn't say it was BAD just that people needed to buy in an informed manner - you're right if you've got Skype buddies then free Skype:Skype calls using this c/be a HOT DEAL.

PS: Just realised it's YOUR hot-deal so howz about changing the subject to an informative/targeted one making it clear this is a HOT DEAL on "a SKYPE DECT phone".

PPS: For anyone wanting to integrate their EXISTING DECT phone(s) via USB with their Windows PC and ADSL connection, I suggest tracking down something like the box marketed by Trust as the Internet Phone Station ST-1200. It was made by a Chinese manufacturer and sold under various other guises (it's really obvious once you recognise the design). With freeware from their Yealink website you can integrate with Skype (for Skype fanboys) OR with the various Betamax VoIP services such as InternetCalls/JustVOIP/etcetc = kill both birds with one stone and don't need a new DECT phone, particularly if you've already got a multihandset DECTset!

it stated VOIP in headline because, this have model called.try to enter Philips 3211S/05 in google and you will see that everywhere its PHILIPS VOIP 3211S/05.I mean,i don't really care VOIP or Skype-Voip :-D

I bought on of these, again on the tsv, It's a quality phone and looks pretty cool!

Word of warning though if you wanna buy one try googling it first, this device does not work on every machine and wont untill phillips get their act together and release working software, seeing as they havent in a couple of years kinda doubt they will now!

Bought one in December (again a Today deal) but just to use as a DECT phone. Very pleased with it. Only (very minor) grumble is that when I answer a wired phone, this one rings on for a few seconds.

Good of you to point out mk-donald that this is a SKYPE phone and not a VOIP phone.Skype is expensive compared to Voip. And Voip is a shared protocol used by many different providers throughout the world, whereas if you use Skype you are locked to Skype and cannot benefit from the more widely available and cheaper alternative of Voip. Skype to be avoided like the plague in my view

Nice attempt to explain the use of Skype, as an expensive option, but unfortunately as there are so many Skype fanboys, it is like talking to a brick wall! I have attempted to do so on two recent threads listing other USB connected Skype phones just this week!:-(

If this is similar to one posted some time ago, is it even usable as a stand alone DECT phone (ie. connected to a standard landline) without being connected to a PC? As I understand it some are not - any owners (eg. scotty2) like to confirm this?

There are any number of cheap DECT phones regular;y posted on here at prices below this though. Sadly nothing special about Philips DECT phones either :-(
