PhotoScan is a new scanner app from Google Photos that lets you scan and save your favourite printed photos using your phone’s camera.

Don’t just take a picture of a picture. Create enhanced digital scans, wherever your photos are.

– Get glare-free scans with an easy step-by-step capture flow

– Automatic cropping based on edge detection

– Straight, rectangular scans with perspective correction

– Smart rotation, so your photos stay the right way up, no matter which way you scan them

Scan in seconds

Capture your favourite printed photos quickly and easily, so you can spend less time editing and more time looking at your bad childhood haircut.

Safe and searchable with Google Photos

Thank you

Great, thanks

Never heard of this, but looks great so thanks.

interesting app. It says it reduces glare, it fails.

Thanks!

Strange ... It isn't compatible with the Nexus 5X running the preview of 7.1.1!

Would have been fairly handy.

Takes low res photos

good start for google but i found the free microsoft 'office lens' app does a better job. It can do business cards, photos and whiteboards. Heat added

another one that uses Microsoft lens here too. Can't recommend it enough for document scanning. does a far better job than any paid app I've ever tried, and I've tried a fair few of the popular ones. Awesome free app

Have to agree with others - text document ended up blurred, taking a photo was sharper.

Good post.

Don't see the diff between this and using your own phone with the flash off.

Image processing. Your phone camera is designed to take pictures, not scan photographs.

I have a stock Galaxy Note 4 which meets the requirements but the store says it's not compatible with any of my devices. I'm not sure what's wrong, another phone also meets the requirements but it isn't compatible either.

Hi John,

I think the app is slowly being rolled out to other compatible devices, Samsung should make it available soon. You can find out more by Tweeting @SamsungHelpUK or sending them a post of their Facebook @SamsungUK.

I hope this helps!

I have an iPhone. This app is an amazing app. I just used it to scan in a framed wedding picture (behind glass) on the wall as a test. There was plenty of glare from the lighting, however, this providing amazing results, correcting the distortion and reducing the glare

Next i tried taking a photo out of an album, and in seconds it is on my phone. Amazing. I will be using this to scan other photos - much quicker and easier to use than a flatbed scanner.
