Compression socks can vary in quality a lot.
I bought these about 9 months ago for ~£17. They seemed like a bargain then but now they are even cheaper. £4 gets removed from the checkout page for some reason. If you want more than 1, place seperate orders. These are great compression socks in quality, design and use.

which studies? I can tell you first hand they absolutely do work!
I use them for exercise and they help tremendously before and after.
I gifted some to a friend whos on their feet all day, his swelling went down so much he had to buy smaller shoes!
I swear by compression socks, and am passionate about getting as many people to use them as possible.
Do these work like the compression running tights?

They probably do but I know several of my older family members who use these exact same ones for the last year and believe they help alot.
Forgive the ignorance, who uses these socks and what are they for? Thanks.
There is also an offer of 2 pairs for £9.99 - are they the same?

After typing in 'Compression Socks' in google, this is the first thing that came up -

What are compression socks for?

Compression stockings are specially designed to apply pressure to your lower legs, helping to maintain blood flow, and reduce discomfort and swelling. They may be prescribed by your GP if you have a condition that causes poor blood flow in your legs, such as: varicose veins (swollen and enlarged veins)

What are compression socks supposed to do?

aid athletic performance by improving circulation and blood flow, limiting exercise induced peripheral edema of the lower extremity, supplying muscles with more oxygen, enhancing lactic acid removal, or decreased muscle soreness during and post exercise.

How do people not try to google simple questions which take seconds to do before posting a question on what something is

Is there not one physiologist here on hukd who can explain if and how these work? Presumably they are operating well below diastolic bp and neither assist nor impede blood flow, but do squish a bit of oedema out for those with a degree of heart failure etc.
Can't help but think a brisk walk, getting the calves pumping, would do more good.

The problem being that google is crap for quality advice. You have just regurgitated the entire output of the marketing dept. 'Aid athletic performance by improving circulation and blood flow' WTF?? 'Supplying muscles with more oxygen' What?
And lay off the copypasta.

Because not everything you read on the internet is true! Plenty of 'fake news' out there.

Half of what you wrote was pseudo-scientific garbage as someone else pointed out.

I'd rather hear someone's first-hand account who uses them.

It was an example of the first 2 things that came up on the search. All it take is a few minutes of reading to get to the answer. The first was by NHS actually so if that's fake news then that's news to me. Also just because one massive buffoon is using the term fake news to brain wash people doesn't mean we need to buy into it.
Not my cup of tea but know a lot of runners that wear them. Some research has showed the aid performance, some has showed that no make no difference. According to runners world no research has shown that they impede performance, so really you have nothing to lose (bar £7) by trying them.
I have rheumatoid arthritis and compression gear - be it hand/feet etc work very well and in fact can sometimes mean the difference between walking or not being able to move. I’ll give them a go. Thanks OP

Thanks for answering the question.

To answer yours, many people (including me) might be reading the comments thinking the same thing. Rather than each of us leaving the site individually to trawl through Google, it's much handier if someone answers the question here (as you have). A lot of people might want to know but not so much they cba to bother to Google it.

give them a try - if they get uncomfortable take them off. Always take advice from trained professionals (doctors) but feel free to use common sense as not all doctors know everything. Good luck!

Seems quite reasonable to me, not 'supposed to' (not advertising IMO, not giving advice).
Personally, I think it was rather kind of 'Tank' to bother to reply
As It appears to be controversial whether they work or not anyway, 'Martin' should do his/her own research and as he/she appears not to even have heard of them, it's unlikely that they will be useful

Hi, i'm in the process of being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, although hoping for a clear verdict in all honesty. I developed Gout (in my right knee) in June of last year but my knee has never recovered. Had 5 bouts in four months, but now have a constant ache and really limited mobility in the knee.

Which joints do you suffer with your arthritis? Presuming the ankles if you're giving these some thought?

Hiya, fingers crossed it’s not RA. I get attacks on all joints - at onset mainly hands - wrist - thumb . Later knees ankles and balls of feet at times .
i got it quite young and it was aggressive - but now contained. But not forever as there’s no cure..these things are more than handy to have around. Take care
