The Pinarello Carbon UD was never part of the Pinarello Worldwide Collection, but was instead designed for the Italian market and only available at special events on the Pinarello Promotional Tour.

The Carbon UD shares the same DNA as 2012 Tour winning Dogma 2. It is produced from the same mould using 60HM carbon in a unidirectional weave.

The result is a Pinarello design that provides a smooth lightweight ride as well as a reliable and durable performance. Sold with the Campagnolo Athena EPS electronic groupset with internal battery and Fulcrum 7 wheel set.

I promised my wife that my n+1 were over, otherwise I'd be all over this.

Blinding price - would be even better if it was Di-2!
Wow that is an amazing price drop. I pity the person who paid full price for one of these and has seen them reduce it now.
Full price from 2012 though, it's old tech

Cos carbon layup has changed so dramatically over the last 8 years.

The groupo makes the deal a blinder on it own.

Great Campag groupset and fantastic frame and a price drop from £4.5k!
I keeping thinking I'll buy a road bike and don't, but this is tempting as better than i need so no need to be tempted to upgrade.
Anyone have any idea of the frame sizing? These all look pretty large to me.
Love the idiots moaning it’s old tech. Show me a better modern tech bike then for this money?! Nobody can!

Old is a point of view. Where’s the barrier for how old is old?! The only real generic change since then is disc brakes versus rim. Nothing else has generally changed. This bike is far better than most riders will ever get to in their ability therefore colour scheme is irrelevant which is the only real relevance year on year up to disc brake revolution.

Which by the way isn’t for everyone anyway hence the UCI took so long to go with it

that's the d-1 amendment to the rule where d is the number of bikes that would result in divorce
Great price but carbon tech has moved on since 2012 (certainly for other manufacturers) but it'll be good enough for many.
carbon Giant TCRs (other bikes and models also available) can be had for £900-£1000 with current mechanical 11 speed that will be easy to replace once one thing breaks (RD,FD or shifter or battery or junction box etc). Mechanical is great these days, and much easier to maintain, so most won';t need more than this. Of course the desire will still be there!

Whilst it is very tempting, check you aren't buying into a dead groupset.
Where in the Campag range is Athena? I have a Giant TCR Carbon with 10 speed Record, is this worth upgrading?

Only if you want 11 speed: Athena has been discontinued, it sat below chorus as the cheapest (relatively) 11 speed groupset; however now that veloce has also been discontinued it means centaur (old name new product) is their least expensive but is 11 speed. Another thing to note is that this crankset is power torque which is harder to remove than ultra torque and is another saga altogether if you Google about it.

Campy list the order as Super Record > Record > Chorus > Athena > Dura Ace Di2
Brilliant price!

Thanks for the info. So what happened to Mirage?

Only if I could understand the size guide.
ianwynneuk20/03/2020 22:09

Doh!

I wrote that before I realised the bike was 8 years old. The person in question has probably rode the hell out of the bike and sold it years ago before he saw this discount. I wonder how a bike gets to be 8 years old before it is sold. I've seen 3 years but 8 years?!

Still feels a bargain for a great looking bike though and I'm not even a Campag fan.

It's also worth pointing out that back then CF frames were fairly expensive being carefully crafted in Taiwanese factories mainly but nowadays you have Cambodia, Bangladesh, Vietnam etc all knocking out cheap CF frames for the big brands. Even many 'Made in Taiwan' CF frames are being made in lower cost factories and just finished and painted in Taiwan. So I wouldn't automatically think the frame here is inferior to a modern CF frame as there has been a huge drive to lower the cost of CF frames.
currently n-1 after needed some extra cash to get us through the epidemic.
