Pioneer AVH-X2500BT 6.1" CD/DVD Bluetooth Car Stereo for £207.90 (with code) @ Halfords

Found 11th Feb 2014
Had been looking for a new head unit and came across this on Halfords yesterday for £250. This was a price match to other online retailers so did not seem too bad as on eBay, these are currently going for around £185 used.

Checked today and they have reduced it to £231 and also running a 10% promo on car stereos with code B14AUD02 (thanks to andywedge for sharing).

Halfords also do 3% cashback, so with that (and they have always paid out in my experience), this is almost £200. I think they have brought out a newer model, hence the price of this one, but it generally gets good reviews on the net and seems like a good price for this model. The alternative was a JVC KW-AV61BT on Car Audio Centre for £200, but after reading about their poor customer service, decided to buy elsewhere.

There are other good offers on double dins at Halfrauds, but these are mostly the non-screen models. Still, worth checking out though as they have Alpines, Pioneers and Kenwood units which all seem quite good.

Below is the usual blurb...

I did also consider the Chinese units off eBay but any reviews I could find on them on forums generally said the sound quality was rubbish, though they seemed to be quite reliable. These were mostly the WinCE units so am curious as to how good the Android units are. My experience of WinCE is that it is a horrible, slow out-of-date OS to be using nowadays (but what do you expect, it is like 15 years old!). Android on the other hand is much more suited it would seem.

Anyone got one of those units which they'd recommend?

Most of the Cheaper China devices are WinCE 5/6 loaded with Android OS.

China did those cheap WinCE 5/6 netbooks some years ago, now you can get the same netbook with the Android OS loaded.

Its the same with the cheap unbranded WinCE SatNav units, some sellers now sell them as Android OS.

I'd like one of these but won't be purchasing till the one with DAB is reduced and/or they support the soon to be released iphone car mode

For those that do have one or similar with an iphone /iPod.

Check out this jailbreak tweak for full control in app mode. (Ios7 version in development)

I'd have so bought this if it was the one that worked with Android phones for navigation, oh well still a bargain.

Simply not true at all. Allot of the systems use Windows Ce 7.0 which is only 2 years old. Windows Ce has it uses and is a very good system it looks dated because of the coders who made the UI for the system. It can be made to look has new or has advanced has they want. It is also a very optimised OS for mobile chips every ATM in the world uses Windows CE extremely reliable efficient and quick.
I love the fact the radios use Windows CE has the front end can be bypassed and you then fully have a tablet on your radio allowing you to do what you want.
Android would be more suited but you see Android requires more RAM and a Faster CPU where has Windows Ce does not.

Do you think it would work with Google Music through the USB wire/Bluteooth (using android)?
Do you reckon I could fit this myself in a Golf Mk V myself or will I need to pay someone to do it.

hi
does anyone have a link to these win ce devices on eBay that now ship with Android os? Are these the ,5" all in one gizmos for the car?

Yes, I take that back. I was referring more to the Win CE 5.0/6.0 devices but you are right, WinCE is still very much in development so a 7.0+ device would be fine I imagine.

All that money and no built in standalone GPS navigation oO without linking your phone, the device is useless.

How about the PHILIPS CED1800BT 2DIN 6.2" Screen DVD Car Stereo Player Bluetooth & GPS Sat Nav £195.00

I saw this one before I brought my jvc kw-av61. I decided against the pioneer one because it's not removable so it could be stolen! Plus the Jvc one allows you to charge iPhones 5 and 5s and the pioneer one isn't compatible with those iPhones until pioneer release an update..

Interesting...I checked the Pioneer manual and it shows you can connect the iPhone 5 with the lightening connector? I think you need a special cable though, so maybe that is the issue..

The JVC was also my other option because of the removable plate. Hope you're enjoying it!

Oh sorry I read it kinda wrong windows ce 6 is old but it is still good. The reason they look old and crappy is just because of the chines developers pushing for a product and not looks sad ! could have amazing potential.

Have a look at the link below - specifically at the measurements. Then probably a case of measuring the opening in your car/looking on the net at forums to see if other people have installed single/double din units.

en.wikipedia.org/wik…736

Anyone has any idea how much will this cost to fit (labour + any fitting accessories). Have a standard vw stereo in my car and am very tempted to go for this.

Agree, looks good on the face of it but also appears to be lacking the GPS module to make the Sat Nav work. I imagine it isn't as expensive to buy as the other branded headunits (for most of them, the GPS costs more than the HU!) but worth mentioning.

Cant believe we are in 2014 and still there are hardly any headunits offering DAB at a reasonable price, they can fit GPS and satnav but they cant graft a DAB receiver in too?

Oh really?! i phoned them up to ask them and they told me it dint support iPhone 5 until an update is realised maybe i was lied to lol

but yeah the JVC is really good! I love it

I have the previous pioneer model in my mkiv golf and its great for the iphone- it charges via usb plays itunes great but even better i can use flac player apps/ spotify and tunein radio whilst on the move!

@jazzyb88 you can plug any iphone charger cable into usb port just like laptop or pc. No "special" cable needed doesnt matter if its 30 pin or lightning cable you use
@cl505 i have the earlier pioneer model it charges any iphone/ ipod including my 5s. This model is updated cosmetically with a few minor added features and will charge all iphones exactly as mine does
