This was posted some time ago. Its only easy to fit if you already have an aftermarket stereo in your vehicle or have a straight forward job requiring no harnesses, aerial adaptors and fasicas. Before purchasing this I would recommend others check Halfords website or go into your local store and use the flip chart book. Very often people are put off by the extra costs of installation, a cheap stereo soon becomes much more with fascias starting from 9.99 and leading up to 39.99, aerial adaptors start at 3.99 should you have a basic vehicle but with BMW's etc you will need a more specific type, which are expensive. And then your harness is 12.99+. Unless of course you will hardwire the unit in. Not buying the replacement fasic will simply mean the unit will not fit, and removing the existing one and not replacing with another would mean your stereo will not sit still in your dash and will probably end up in your lap when you go round a corner. I say this because I have fitted many units which are very complex, particularly in newer cars when parts of the dash have to be removed for fitting. If in doubt Halfords will fit it for 39.99 for you. And yes, I do work for them.

I have a bmw z3 with a non standard cd player already in there. Will I have problems fitting this cd player then?

Can it fit in Peugeot 107

In my opinion £39.99 for fitting a car stereo is daylight robbery, and you can pick up aerial adaptors cheaper if you look around e.g. Maplins

I'm not knocking Halfords as they are great if you need something in a hurry, they are convenient but if you can spend some time to look around you will get a much better deal.

i agree with the fitting, as i had a little trouble fitting my old one in my mk1 punto, and as said once it was in i was able to put this one in no probs...there are other places that will fit them, and likewise im sure there are various guides on online forums, the fiatforum has some i used to fit mine!

In my experience its easier, cheaper, quick and less hassle to get the job done by an auto electrician. I did it myself a few times and its a right hassle - depending on how you do it, i.e:

a) Buy the first parts you see - quicker but expensive.
b) Shop around for the best prices - slower but cheaper.

I rang around to a few places and started with a quote of £110 + VAT (by a man with a van) but eventually found a more established place (who already had all the required parts in stock) and they did it for £45 all inclusive - with the option for a DAB aerial for another £20.

Bought one of these last time Argos had them at this price. Cost less than a tenner for aerial and wiring adapter from a well known online auction site and took me about half an hour to fit in my Zafira.

People are put off with the halfords price.

I fitted one of these head units after buying a £5 facia from ebay and a Harness thingy for about £4 oh and an ariel converter for £1. It took me less than 5 mins to fit. Halfords wanted to charge me £25 for the facia, £29.99 for the harness and another 5 odd quid for the ariel converter. If you feel upto it fit yourself. there are hundreds of online guides. The only thing I dont have is steering wheel controls but thats just because I dont justify the £20 cost for the adaptor (cheapest I have found so far)

if only it played mp3 cd's i'd be tempted to replace my factory standard unit with this. Great deal nonetheless for those with tapes / non branded / faulty head unit...removable fascia and front aux in socket are gr8 features...however i use my tiny iPod nano with the iTrip fm transmitter and find it ideal ( got a new iTrip for a tenner posted via the well known auction site ) and recommend this option to anyone...use fm frequency 88.8 ( works for me where I live and drive )...heat and rep added...top find...if you can find one in stock that is !

RE: playing mp3

thanks for pointing that out - I just assumed this unit did
(I thought all headunits these days played mp3 cds?)

i burned a cd in itunes, worked no problems, is that not standard?

Just ordered one to be picked up from StNeots in Bedford. Last one in stock.

were you able to get more than 1 album on the CD? (if it's mp3 then you should be able to squeeze at least 10hrs of music on 1 disc)

Original Poster

i burned about 50 or so tracks, ill check the exact number if u want!
could have put more, but dont want too many on the same disk!
most of the time my iphone will be connected anyway tbh!

Original Poster

p.s. feel free for rep to be given anyone that gets one!

Just reserved the last one at my local store, will try and collect today.

Reserved and will collect tomorrow.

Finally will be able to plug my Ipod in.

H&R given - thanks for this.

 glad to hear it!

just reserved one (last one, aberdeen)

My old stereo died about a month ago and I refitted the vauxhall/blaupunkt one that came with the car - horrible sounding thing, only good for talk radio

So this is ideal - also with AUX in so I can connect the MP3

I already have a pioneer head unit fitted, but would like the aux feature. Would this be easy to fit using the existing mounting brackets etc?

Existing headunit's a DEH-P2500MP, if anyone knows would be a great help!

Original Poster

should be fairly easy
it comes with an adaptor thingy
i did mine in a matter of minutes
the trickyest thing on mine was the sodding ignition thing as my wire was a tad frayed! mk1 sporting punto btw, and its even worse that ive replaced and done up the whole interior so the wiring is everywhere anyway!
